Be it pro or free the app spies and its users and reports back to several serves located in China . To call it the " #1 most powerful file manager for android" is grossly overstated , there are many as good (if not better file explorers available ) .

ES actually lost many of its users (yours truly included) after the unpopular changes were put in place.

Thank you for this clarification
@smallhagrid: I prefer not to be spied.

So, which app do you advocate?

You can try MiXplorer, the only app which i think can stand on par with Es File Explorer..

I still trying to adapt to this app, but keep going back Es File Explorer.

I agree that it is no good being spied on, as I said here:

As this version works for older devices and ES has some features that many other do not have at all.

Avoiding spyware is important - as is having apps that do what you need for them to do.

Mostly I do not use a device-based file manager unless I need to do something that can ONLY be done that way.
Up 'till now I'm mostly using Total Commander when I need that because I keep reading about the spyware in ES...!

My favourite way to mess with files is using My Phone Explorer with whatever device connected to the PC.
I also use QtADB & Droid Commander from the PC.

PS:
I tried looking up MiXplorer at GP from the link in that other thread as well as via their search and it does not come up - very strange !!

TNX smallhagrid for the advse, I'll give a try of mixplorer ;)
In fact, frequently, I do not use a device-based file manager. I was looking for an OTG "exlorer" enabling copy/transfer to/from USB key.

it seems google denied access from es file manager to gdrive. i had to make a hard reset of device, after that i installed es file manager (version from here), but when trying make a gdrive connection, getting 403 error (forbidden). have to say - this version from here worked perfectly, and probably still works. only making a new connection has lack :(
anybody here with same problem, and / or some solution please?

@Danhen The playstore reviews seem to indicate your not the only one with google drive connection problems.

Im not sure if this is related to this modded version, but I have previously installed this version. I liked the app that much that I purchased the full version and installed that after un-installing this modded version and deleting any folders I could find that it had made. The purchased version appears to come up with an "Unlicensed version..." error message on startup. Anyone know if this modded version leaves anything behind that may be causing this error?

I have emailed the developer, but I am guessing that this Pro version has been abandonded as it's not listed on their website. There facebook page and twitter page also doesnt exist.

Any help with the above will be appreciated.

From the posts here, we know Es File Explorer has become shady to an extent. You can still use the app for its feature, ignoring the fact. But I won't trust my google account password to this kind of app. U better remove the password and change it immediately. Just use other apps for gdrive, there are a lot of alternatives.

that's interresting. i've been using this modded app since released here. for everything, including gdrive. i havn't faced any troubles at all. however, i follow your advice and change a password.
i tried randonly picked filemanager, choice fallen onto x-plore file manager. no troubles at all with connection to gdrive. shame :(
thx for advice anyway, will keep using es file manager for its features as i didnt find any better filemanager and something else for gdrive as internal gdrive client is rubbish.

X-plore is ok, solid explorer can be alternative too. I used to grant Es File Explorer root permission in the past, coz it is my main file manager (till now). But since they started to gone rogue, I never grant it anymore. I use root explorer instead.
