How could an apk editor result in a brick or security vulnerability?

Now whenever i open the app it just opens application info page and says running - i can stop, wont open, problem with my OS, or anyone else? All my other apps are working fine ...

How different is this from APKTool?

From my experience:

with apk editor I can open an apk, look inside, change some image or layout code, then compile and install.

With apktool you have to decompile everything, then look at the files created, change, and then compile everything again.
