I extracted the apk but when I try to install it, the install button in Android's package manager doesn't respond, as if it hasn't been programmed to do anything.

You're probably on an aosp rom that has halo activated make sure you turn that off before installing.

That issue with halo was fixed by pa devs some time ago...its an issue with app overlays...
Google wont allow an app to install when another apps running in foreground(i had the same issue with Llama some time ago although it disappeared on its own)...thats was the issue with Halo as well...

I tried freezing trickster mod before installing the update and the install button was still unresponsive. I may just manually copy it...

Edit - I turned off Lux and it worked. Thanks for the overlay hint.
