@ lohtse, you beat me to the same question mate. Lol. I was also going to ask what is the difference of this version and the other one? This is Modded and other one isn't? Or something? I just got confused seeing both apps and which one to DL.

For the difference, read the mod features! But is there nothing more ....?

lol this app should work for non root users if they have apps on sd i assume, and you should be able to create and backup some apps that you've downloaded (not paid ones) if you're non rooted

also you should be able to patch some apps if not rooted

I think so, based on nihon said.
IMO, I think mod version is better than original:
1. Work on non root
2. Can be used to bypass 3rd party apps that block LP

Would be nice if freedom also mod too. :)

But, when I tried to patch such apps like Sing, Autorap, and Avast, I don't receive the benefits of VIP nor do I get the premium features of Avast...

If you are not rooted, you can't patch installed apps directly (since you can't write to /data/apps/ folder).

So you have 2 options:
1) patch the apk BEFORE installing using the "Rebuild & Install" command. It will tell you where the patched apk is located.
2) for apps that are already installed, you have to "create modified .apk", uninstall the app, then install the patched apk. **IMPORTANT: uninstalling the app will delete all settings/progress/etc.**

Also, the docs say that doing it this way is less likely to work than patching an installed app directly.

So yes, you can use it if you're not rooted, but it's very limited.

(this applies to both the original & this modded version of LP - the mod only changes the names of the LP package & folder so other apps won't know it's installed)

How do you patch the APK before installing?

First check the forums to see if someone has already posted one. If nobody has, it's usually because LP was unable to patch it successfully (my observation). If you still want to try, here's what to do (this is intended for non-rooted devices, although it's not much different for rooted). As you can see, it's not exactly a simple process...

If it's something you downloaded from mobilism (or elsewhere):
1) run LP, do "Rebuild & Install", locate the apk, choose "Rebuild"
2) select the type of patch you want. If a custom patch is available, try that first.
3) choose the patching options. For removing license verification, start with the default (first) option. Then "Rebuild Application" (this may take a few minutes). When it's done, it will tell you where the patched apk is stored.
4) locate the patched apk, and install
5) Test the app - if it works, great, but it usually doesn't. If you were trying to remove license verification, go back to step 1, and try different options in step 3 (remember you can combine some options).

If it's an app you installed from Google/Amazon store, change step 1:
1) run LP, and tap the app in the list. Choose "Open menu of patches", then "Create modified .apk".
Now do steps 2 and 3, but before continuing with step 4 you will need to uninstall the app.
**IMPORTANT: uninstalling the app will delete all settings/progress/etc.**

If you want to do more than 1 patch (eg. remove license check AND remove ads), I think you have to repeat this whole process, but start with the patched apk you just created.

It's really not as difficult as it may seem, but it does require a bit of patience.

There is an app that allows you to change the package name of an app. I can't remember what it's called though; OP probably knows...
