H.P. Lovecraft Pocket Collection Update 090817 (Freeware)
Requirements: PocketPC 2003(SE), WM5, WM6
Overview: The H.P. Lovecraft Pocket Collection is a e-book reader specially crafted for H.P.'s work. The app looks really nice and features some original graphics and creepy sounds. This book reader has most features you might expect. You can set bookmarks of course. And it keeps track of your previous position.
Features:
- Flick to next page using left sweep (<-) or the right arrow key.
- Flick to previous page using right sweep (->) or the left arrow key.
- List actions are executed using double tap.
- Menu actions are executed using single taps.
I used the easiest, and most flexible, possible way to devide the text into pages. The reader simply presents pre-set a number paragraphs from the text file as a page. These are the numbers written on top of each page. The default page size is 2 paragraphs. This is easily configured however. I will write more on this on another occation (a small clue for the handy reader. Its in the GSlide, Registry/BookShelf/).
Books are easy to add later by just dropping a folder containing the new book, sub devided into chapter files, into the /HPL/GSlide/Actions/Resources/Registry/BookShelf/Lovecraft/ folder. I will write more about this when I upload more books.
The reader is a bit slow because of its scripted core. But I find it very enjoyable, and I hope you will as well.
Installation:
This book reader is made with GSlide which is a nifty tool to make nice looking, user friendly apps using scripting.
In order to get the reader up and running, GSlide needs to figure out where you put it.
Please do the following:
1. Go to your HPL (any location on your device/storage card).
2. Enter the sub directory GSlide\Actions\ScriptEngines\.
3. Click on the GSlide_Install.exe.
4. Click on HPL_Install.exe.
5. Out of respect for you, dear device owner, I don't want to do anything with your system config. Please take the igl.ttf file (this is the wonderful IGaramond font) and place it in your \Windows\Fonts\ folder. The reader looks 100% better with this font!
This procedure does nothing outside the HPL directory, so there is nothing to "uninstall" if you want to remove the app later.
Please note the installation instructions above since they are necessary for the application to function.
Update Description:
090817:
- Compiled new GSlide.exe with some bug fixes.
- Fixed scripting issues such as:
o Non-responsive top bar.
o Missing last page of chapter.
o etc.
- Added a link to the Settings context which gives the option to:
o Turn off sound.
o Set custom backlight for the app.
090811:
- Compiled new GSlide.exe with silent error handeling.
- Removed all bookmarks from the install folder so that the entire folder can be overwritten on updates without loosing personal bookmarks.
- Uploaded to server.
090810:
- Forgot the font file in the earlier releases.
- Uploaded to freewareppc.com.
090809:
- Fixed the top bar so that it not only shows the menu, but also closes it at a second tap.
- Made small changes to increase stability.
- Uploaded the new zip to freewareppc.com.
