it ran on my droid2...but metal had to be right up on it before it detected anything
but it didnt detect a big metal binder clip, so i dont know if it works or not

yes it works. It's possible to do so with phone compass.
I had this on my n97 and that one work much better !

ahh ok, i didn't put two and two together that a compass magnet would be attracted to metal. thanks for the replies - will try this out.

can detect only ferro-metalic compound... electromagnetic field, blahblah, ...
