Tricorder v5.11
Requirements: Android 1.6 and later
Overview: A simple tricorder for Android, using your phone's real sensors to detect magnetic fields, gravity, etc. Detect buried powerful magnets! See the passing gravity wave from a distant collapsar on your phone screen!† Be a mega-geek! Etc.

Tricorder is a Trekkie geek toy that turns your Android phone into a Tricorder. However, it's not totally a toy, as it uses real data from your phone's sensors -- you may be surprised at how many sensors your phone has. Currently it can display acceleration; the local magnetic field; an analysis of the local acoustic environment; your location from various providers; the availability and strength of cellular and WiFi signals; and the current state of the Sun and solar wind, including current pictures of the Sun.

If you use some app/game on a daily basis and really like it then buy it.

I was able to download it, and it seems to work okay for me. It basically lets you get readings for as many sensors as your phone has, with a ST:TNG-looking front end. I'm not sure if it has any real, practical purpose, but I leave that up to you.

Since so many people were having trouble with the download link, I went ahead and hosted it on my own Rapidshare account.

A funny app that emulates sound effects and appearance of the famous Startrek gimmick.
It seems to read all the sensors (including microphone), even downloads solar activity data and sunspot pictures.
But it often crashes hard whenever I click into any graph or solar picture (memory issue)?
Anyone else?

Yes. Crashes often but take it for what it is. It's not being developed anymore.

Thanks for the confirmation of the FCs!
There seems to be a final version 5.12 somewhere (haven't found it yet).
Greedy CBS was enforcing the removal of this fun app in August (if G.Roddenberry would know this...).

Wonderful, and the 'solar' crash is gone in this version as well!
"Live long and prosper!", or in my terms: "FU, CBS!"
