SkySafari Pro v1.1.1
Requirements: Android 2.2+
Overview: SkySafari Pro has the largest database of any astronomy app, period.

Image

It weighs in at half a gig, and contains over 15.3 million stars from the Hubble Guide Star catalog, plus 740,000 galaxies down to 18th magnitude, and over 550,000 solar system objects - including every comet and asteroid ever discovered. Yet it runs just as fast and smoothly as our basic version.

SkySafari Pro can point your GoTo or "Push-To" telescope anywhere in the sky, using your Android device's built-in WiFi or bluetooth, and our SkyFi wireless or Starry Night BlueStar bluetooth serial adapter.

SkySafari Pro accurately shows you the sky from any place on Earth, at any time up to 100 years in the past or future. It includes 1100 encyclopedic descriptions of the constellations, stars, and planets written by professional astronomers. And it contains over 800 images from NASA space missions, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the world's foremost astro-photographers.

If you have an Android device with a compass, SkySafari Pro can help you identify stars and planets by holding your phone next to them. Tap the Compass button (or tilt your phone up toward the sky) to activate the compass. Now, as you move the phone around, the sky chart follows your motion. Search for any object in the sky, and follow the arrow on screen to find it!

SkySafari has a "Night" button to preserve your dark adaptation as you're exploring the night sky. The Time Flow feature lets you animate the night sky using simple VCR controls - follow the motion of the stars and planets as SkySafari compresses days, months, and years into a few seconds.

SkySafari Pro's streamlined user interface puts the universe at your fingertips - and turns your Android into a 21st-century telescope controller. SkySafari is your celestial travel guide!

Why should you pay for SkySafari when Google SkyMap is free?

For starters, even the basic version of SkySafari includes ten times more star data than Google SkyMap. Our deep sky database contains thousands of NGC/IC objects, not just the 110-object Messier catalog. Our Pro version contains 550,000 solar system objects - including every known moon, asteroid, and comet in the solar system - not just the Sun, Moon, and nine planets (we're sentimentally still counting Pluto!)

Our apps contain hundreds of built-in images, and include thousands of object descriptions, written by professional astronomers. Google SkyMap gives you Wikipedia links - which don't do you much good when you're out in the field, away from Wi-Fi or data network connections.

Our Plus and Pro versions can control telescopes; Google SkyMap cannot. Google SkyMap cannot reproduce basic astronomical phenomena like lunar eclipses and Jovian satellite shadow transits. Our apps, by contrast, were developed by passionate astronomers with a penchant for quality and accuracy. We make a living from our products, and we stand by them.

What's in this version:
Fixed crash when trying to adjust star magnitude limits, deep sky object magnitude limits, and any other settings area that uses a slider in a "live-adjust" view.
Enabled use of custom horizon panoramas, and remove ability to set horizon altitude from the basic version.
Fixed problem where screen wouldn't update after tapping the compass button when not using current time.
Fixed the sorting order in searches. When searching for "Messier" the returned list was not sorted correctly.
Fixed crash when tapping on an image link in the Object Info.
In Plus and Pro, fixed crash when trying to import an "old style" observing list created on iOS. SkySafari now displays a message saying the list couldn't be imported, and creates an empty list instead.

This app is laggy for me, not sure why. Im using the Droid X. The latest build of Star Chart is laggy as well, I had to revert to an older build of Star Chart to enjoy it. SkySafari Pro and Star Chart seem to be causing problems now. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a new feature these astronomy apps have that could be causing the problem?

Same here, placing the program folder in the appointed SD map doesn't prevent the program from willing to download over 400 Mb of data. How to solve this?

What device you guys own? I'm asking because if your device has addicional internal memory you have to place this data there. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note with 16G of internal memory and I have a memory card with 16G. I have to put all the downloaded data in this internal memory, not sd card, and everything goes fine till now.

the directions for copying the data over are terrible, here you go for any that are having issues...

Do not decompress the ZIP archive.

Connect your Android device to the computer where you downloaded the data with a USB cable. Mount your Android's SD card as a USB mass storage device on your computer, so it shows up as a removable disk drive. If you don't know how to do that, consult your Android device manual.

Copy the ZIP archive you downloaded to the following directory on your mounted SD card:

SkySafari Pro: <top level of SD card>/Android/data/com.southernstars.skysafari_pro/files/

After the ZIP archive has finished copying, unmount your SD card and unplug your USB cable.

Launch SkySafari. It should detect the ZIP archive you copied , and ask if you wish to install the files. Click "Install." If successful, SkySafari will automatically delete the ZIP archive, freeing up space on your SD card.
