And to add to timoteo's point, really games like this and Jetpack Joyride the coin earning is your progress. The powerups are earned kina like in a RPG, it gives you a sense of getting better/stronger. If ou buff yourself up to max from the get-go things can get boring pretty fast.
That, and this game is really easy to cheat with Game Killer, ahem.
