Release Tester's Review

Tested/Working on: PPC 2003+SE, WM5, WM6
Not working on: PPC 2002*
Rating: Originality: 6/10 - Quality: 6/10 - Performance vs similar products: 5/10 -- Average: 6/10
Comment: The first thing that was added to mobile phones as a useful feature was alarm clock. But unfortunately the built-in alarm clock of PocketPC devices is very simple and in most cases useless. Even in newer versions of Windows Mobile, we don't see any significant improvements.
GenTimer as a multi-functional alarm clock has a nice graphical interface and some useful features such as world time, stopwatch, countdown and timer. There are two skins available, one with analogue clock and the other with a digital interface.
You can choose up to 4 cities in world time from more than 150 major cities. It shows day and night graphically as well. The stopwatch can store unlimited lap times and an option is provided to prevent backlight from turning off while it is running. And up to 5 timers could be run simultaneously.
There are three different alarm types, standard, gently and sleepyhead. In gently mode, the alarm will be triggered 5 or 10 minutes after the alarm time and in sleepyhead mode, you have to enter an unlock code to stop alarm. Alarm schedules can be added or edited too.
However there are some disadvantages that reduces its rating scores. Though it can set alarm volume, it uses system notification volume and doesn't use internal volume settings. Meanwhile after each soft-reset, GenTimer will be executed automatically but the program screen will remain open and the notification volume will be changed to mute.
It adds a time-based handler to the notification queue for each alarm. GenTimer requires about 2MB of storage memory and can be installed to storage card.

this looks like a very nice app from the features. Why the relatively lower rating?

dear saqer, Realese Testers don't rate tools just by those features that are proclaimed by the developer. a review will be posted after atleast 30 minutes of full test on certain devices and the cons and pros will be mentioned completely in the review. Finally, the rating is based on the program advantages and disadvantages and its functionalities versus other similar tools.

the problems i've mentioned in the review makes this tool unreliable.
However there are some disadvantages that reduces its rating scores. Though it can set alarm volume, it uses system notification volume and doesn't use internal volume settings. iac, your comments are already appreciated and don't forget to rate the release you're using.

if you mean Chronos, it's tested as well. you can find the latest version here.

p.s. please do not quote long posts. it makes reading the thread harder specially for those who are not using PC for surfing these forums.
