Before anyone asks, no this can not be modded, all of the credits etc. in the game are server-sided. Supercell has locked down their games pretty well. But if you have your own server and know how to do proxy spoof hacks like was done for tapped out then give it a shot.

I have no specific resources to offer, I just know of the technique as a concept. If you search here for earlier versions of the Tapped Out hack (like from last year) there were discussions regarding that approach because one of the hacks had been deploying that technique. You will need to look for topics that are fairly old and have a lot of posts. There might be some references on XDA but they tend to police commercial exploit discussions.

That is about it. If this approach was possible for this, or clash of clans even, we would have heard about it by now

Actually there is a mod not for resource or diamonds but this mod is pretty helpful.
It has two functions:
1. Keep online : use it to prevent attacks/home-base raid for as long as you want!

2. Sandbox attack: enabling it will allow you to simulate on attack anyone even global rank players without losing your anything! but game will restart after this.(if enabled, just scout or view and u can attack & see if u can win!)
