Lathe was developed with two primary objectives: Superior Ease of Use and Superior Efficiency. Both Objectives have been successfully achieved making Lathe, we believe, the unquestioned champ for video conversion for your portable media device.

Lathe’s performance with the Sony PSP is particularly noteworthy. As anyone who has tried to copy a video file to a PSP knows, it is not an easy process. With Lathe, it is.

Lathe takes your existing video files, optimizes it for stellar playback on the PSP, allows you to select an identifying thumbnail that will appear on the PSP video menu and automatically loads it to your PSP. If you know about the burdensome file naming convention currently required by PSP, you’ll be delighted to know that Lathe bypasses it completely. If you don’t know what that means, consider yourself lucky – with Lathe you don’t need to.

Lathe will be continuously upgraded on 3 fronts: codec support, device support and new features.

Registered users of Lathe will get the full benefit of all of these developments and will be notified immediately when upgrades and enhancements become available. This is important because there is no automatic update feature in Lathe – we need to know who you are to make sure we get you the current upgrades and plug ins.

Finally, your purchase of Lathe supports continued development of Lathe as well as Omniquiti’s efforts to bring you high quality, original, DRM-free video productions developed specifically for portable devices and portable viewing.

This was created by the same people as Pocket DivX Encoder by the way. It counts as Pocket DivX Encoder's paid version.

I know the dude who made that software.. He has the free version on his site. He made that software for a company. I would suggest you guys to use the following version. He is very nice, he even gave me the source code for it.

I've used few encoders but this is the most simplest and the best quality one ever. Best of all it's all one file, no need to install anything. Just run the EXE file.

Pros : Best quality with extensive options. and even gives you your own preview so you can see your output quality without encoding the whole thing.

Cons : Beacause of all the richness it's a little slow in the encoding.

Hmm... the 1.5 release. I had the one dated Jan '06 - can't see the version number - and I was sorely disappointed with it. Not only was it slow, it also crashed on certain files for no discernable reason - where PocketDivXEncoder worked on everything (the workaround at the time was to pass it through PDXE before throwing it at Lathe).

The only reason why I kept it is because it's the only thing able to successfully write videos into a 2.6 firmware PSP's memory stick - other methods are not recognized by the PSP.

(Yes, I know, I know, sell it and get a 1.5 FW, or reflash etc - PSP ain't mine so shut it. I did persuade said person to get a 1.5, but nooooo - person wanted white.)

Let's hope this one isn't the same as my copy and it performs way better than that last clustereff.

I purchased this software, it is only $6.00 and I thought I would support the author. I haven't tried it as yet, but the freeware version is pretty nice.

And my paid version is V1.5
