Personnaly I don't trust antivirus anymore: Norton is a deep sh*t who slow your computer and never find true virus, Kaspersky nerver tested. Long ago i trusted AVG (a very light a fast antivirus but don't like some keygen...
My solution :
1) use linux as much as I can (Mandriva 2008 - XP black edition dual boot
2) On a clean computer: Use firefox and no antivirus (I never had a problem since two years, and of course on antispyware and firewall)

I do TOTALLY AGREE with carbonyle! Use [as a beginer] MepisLinux or Kubuntu/Ubuntu; but if U are still addicted with Win***s, at least PROTECT YOURSELF and use Firefox instead of IE.
A good FIREWALL/ANTISPYWARE?... Hmmm... Why not to use ZoneAlarm Pro [got EVERYTHING inside]?...
If not, install AVG Free Edition and ZoneAlarm Free [also free - try it from here _http://www.filehippo.com/download_zonealarm_free/]. These combination will make your PC un-distructible! 4 REAL!!!

I have to disagree with mulea.
With AVG free edition and all newest updates I managed to infect my comp. so I would not recommend it.

everything is possible but think about it: did you use firefox ? did you run some cracked.exe software downloaded from "warez sites" (bad sites with a lot of popup and porn). Infection is, for me 99% comportemental, (like real virus, and i'm microbiologist, trust me). so if you don't take care you'll have problem even if you're "imunised"...

MOD: this is offtopic you should close this treat.
