New version, 0.8:
http://www.igo8mods.com/sw/iGoSkinWizard_0.8.zip
Thanks to Specter for the website (I had no time to update it yet).

Change Log:
- many, many improvements
- support for transparency
- support for bitmap conversion using iPIE
- support for scaling or zooming bitmaps from common folder (zoom only when aspect ratio is preserved)

Known Issues: Gurjon skin variables still incorrectly converted.

Many thanks for your efforts! Unfortunately I cannot run it, I got the following message after the Unzip / Decompress process (at the end of the process, with several data.zips, or skin.zips, it was the same):

"Access violation at address 01193C16 in module 'BORLNDMM.DLL'. Write of address 0000003E."
Do you have any idea?

1 comment: if you select only a data.zip (no skin) on the opening page, the Next button won't be active.

Best Wishes,
Bagor

@Bagor: What skins and data.zip are you using? An uploaded link with an example of both would be helpful (PM me). About the comment: it's a feature, not a bug ;).

A note: There are bitmaps with both pixels of transparent color and alpha channel. Currently, iSW suggests throwing away the alpha channel (helps reduce the number of colors). Suggestions welcome on whether that's the right thing to do (similar bitmaps in data.zip have alpha and no transparent color instead).

@everyone: Thanks to Specter, iSW now has a website (soon to be updated) which includes a guestbook, pls try to leave feedback there.

Good news, everyone: turns out the iGo converter DOES convert bitmaps with more than 250 colors! It still fails in very rare cases, but is otherwise completely usable. I'll add support for it and fix other reported bugs shortly, so... keep reporting bugs ;).

Please, take a look at this 2 images..
there are something that fails in the conversation.. really dont know what, but.. you´re the man. As you see, there are not aligned collums. you know why in one case it happens and on the other menu everything is perfect ??

Looks good so far. I did try to convert dimka 400x240 to 800x480 and the zooming of the common files didn't work. I'll keep trying and keep you posted. the new bmp conversion is working great.

@miruim: I'm afraid I don't know enough about skinning to be able to tell what's wrong there (plus, I don't have the actual skin). I guess the best way for me to help is to incorporate things as people discover them and submit feedback...
@Specter: Which zooming did you try, the one that copies and scales the files, or the one that just puts a scaled "zoom=" value? And didn't work as in the bitmaps were not scaled, scaled improperly, or...? Anyway, please keep providing feedback. The zoom feature is experimental. arkoko says it should work with "highres=0", and I assume the zoom values are in %. I still need to implement a check whether the file already exists in data.zip for the desired resolution, thus a zoom would make screw things up.

For clarify.
* zoom are in %
* highres=0 is by default if not define it as 1. Not necessary to put =0 to sys.txt
* all big-medium-mini sized turns icons in gurjon skin changed by zoom. So it should work...

------
Some skins includes vga bitmaps. Example: for 400x240 resolution vga bmp-s are fine for 800x480. So not all bmp-s must be resized, copy over instead.

@arkoko: Thanks for the clarifications. The question is, how can I automatically decide which bitmaps to just copy? Some (car icon, etc) might indeed be fine, but others (buttons) won't. Won't they look too small in the case you're talking about (200% zoom)?
BTW, iSW offers the option of choosing a different resolution as the source for resized bitmaps. Let's say you want to resize a 400x240 to 800x480, you can use the bitmaps from 640x480 if available. iSW (although I might have mistakenly broken this) uses the original 400x240 resolution to determine what the bitmap size is, scales the size in each direction, then loads the bitmap from 640x480 and resizes it. This results in less blurring, but may have problems with aspect ratios. I guess each bitmap has its own method: copy, resize from source, resize from higher resolution source, etc. I'll think of a way to do that in the GUI without overloading it too much.
iSW also lets you edit the resized bitmap, so presumably one can set Photoshop as the editor and retouch the bitmaps after resizing.

Hmmm... there is no zoom= on any of the lines I have seen. when it converts the UI it doesn't add the zoom command anywhere. I have tried it without zoom but get an error. once I figure out why, i will let you know.

One more minor bug. when you add "modified with igoskinwizard" if the name is too long, the skin will not show up on the list of available skins in igo8. I had to manually rename them a shorter name and it worked. maybe use ' - igoskinwizard"

@Specter: Thanks, more on my ToDo list ;).
It's supposed to add "zoom=" to lines with bitmaps from common folder, the ones with $ in the name.

When i add zoom=200 after "$bitmap.bmp", I get an error. Is there a certain way to use it? I am trying to double the size of some bmps.

another small bug. you are copying the bmp files from common to the xxx_yyy directory but not the associated filename.spr files. I think if you copied the spr files into the xxx_yyy directory, the scaling without zoom will work.
