VITO SMS-Chat v1.0
Requirements: Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0 Phone Edition Pocket PC
Overview: SMS-Chat is a Windows Mobile SMS messenger that organizes your SMS correspondence into threaded SMS conversations. This way you have a separate chat for every contact with whom you exchange short text messages. You can easily follow a conversation scrolling thru chats with a finger: all messages are grouped by date. Manage your mobile texting with a flick of a finger!

I have one question. Where the text messages are stored? I have tried in different folders without finding anything. You can make a backup of sms?

hi! gnlp1964,

I'm not an expert, but I understood that the way SMS are stored, we can't manage them direct ...

you can backup them with little pieces of software like:
"Contact + SMS Backup"
take a look here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=39451&hilit=contact
note you can backup SMS as a .DAT file for restore purpose or .TXT file for text use
"SpriteArchie"
I recently released in the VIP section (consider making a donation and you'll have immediate access to that part of the forum)
note this software allows you to manage SMS via your email system

best regards & ride safe

A .CAB file a day, for mobile users on the way, keeps installation problems away...

< .CAB file link(s) > added to opening post. (Unless specified all .CAB files are Rapidshare links)

Why should one install a CAB-file?

- direct download/install to the device, without polluting desktop PC by useless installed files
- CAB files are trusted. no viruses, no trojans
- Look HERE to find out how to install a .CAB file

Tested.. works great! and I like the way this app works... The only bug I found was the app can't search/find the chars/word if we type with Uppercase at the beginning of the chars/word.

I agree this program is absolutely great. It works as intended and runs smooth. Does not lag my system and have had no problems yet. The only cons the software has in my opinion is that A) It moves the messages from outlook message inbox to the software inbox and B) it does not allow you to adjust any contact. See my number is private so I have to add *82 to many of my contacts to avoid the calls going out as private. So when I attempt to add contact to send message it doesnt allow me to remove the *82. So I have to send the message through the default software anyway..

Be careful with this app tho...I heard that if you uninstall it it takes ALL of your sms messages with it (ie: you lose all your previous messages).

Damn you Gameloft!

It works really great on WM6. However, I use phoneAlarm to handle SMS notifications etc and it doesn't support the VITO SMS-Chat notification yet. Due to this, when an incoming SMS arrives, there is no sound, only the pop-up window with the message. If you do not use phoneAlarm, then there is no problem.

If you use phoneAlarm, to solve this, go to Sounds & Notification and re-enable the Incoming SMS Message notification alert that phoneAlarm disabled, then set the ringtone you want. The downside to this is you will no longer get the phoneAlarm profile settings that you used to have for SMS messages. But given the usefulness of this app, it's worth the trade-off. I'm sure phoneAlarm will support this nifty app pretty soon since this is a very promising SMS app!

CAUTION:

*** Back-up your messages using PIM Backup, it's free. ***

If you are just testing this app and not serious in keeping it, be warned that SMS-Chat will MOVE all your incoming and sent messages to a new folder in the Text Messages database/folder named SMS-Chat. Your default SMS inbox and sent messages will all be empty; -- These SMS messages are now located inside the SMS-Chat Incoming and Sent folders respectively. You can browse through it using pocket outlook, its all there so don't panic.

Even if you send the message using the default SMS sender, the sent messages will only appear in SMS Chat app. You can restore your Incoming and Sent messages and the default behaviour of your SMS messaging by uninstalling SMS-Chat and restoring the messages using the backup you made with PIM Backup. To completely cleanup your SMS database, delete the SMS-Chat folder by going to Pocket Outlook >> Menu >> Tools >> Manage Folders >> Tap-and-Hold on the SMS-Chat folder then select Delete.

Hope this info is useful. :D
