In Call Recorder v1.0 Build 1821.242 (Freeware)
Requirements: PPC WM5, WM6 - QVGA
Overview: Record 2 way conversations on HTC Phones (and possibly others but im not sure).
Image Image Image Image

More Info: 2 way recording has never been possible on most HTC phones because of hardware limitations but with this program its made possible.
Code: Select allhttp://www.htc.com

Download Instructions: This is the install method I would recommend:

1. Install the ICRQVGA cab to your device memory and do the soft reset after.
DONT INSTALL ANY SECONDARY RECORDING PROGRAM YET!!
2. When the phone restarts make a test call to your customer services line or an automated line, when it picks up goto the dialer menu in the bottom right corner and click start rescording. If you dont see the Start Recording option then come out and just install ICRQVGA again (that fixed it for me).
3. When you select start recording AFTER a call has been established then you should see a red circle in the call screen next to the persons name.
4. Let it record for about 15 seconds and then go back into the dialer menu and select stop recording. The red circle in the screen will then disapear and you can end the call (after I ended the call I heard 2 beeps which are linked to ICR).
5. Goto Start, Programs, ICR and you should see the call you just made in the list.
6. Click on the Recording to start playing it and make sure it recorded the incoming part of the call.
7. If it worked you can just leave it at that and use ICR to record your conversations as it works just fine by itself (you just need to start recording manually from the phone menu after the call has been established). The are options in ICR to record in AMR or WAV format and to record to the device or Storage Card (it saves the file to My Documents, Recording).
Alternatively you can then install a secondary recording program such as Resco Audio Recorder or Vito Audio Notes (standard or touch version), then set the option for auto record to capture all conversations.

I can say that it works fine with all the Vito versions, I always used to have trouble with Resco Recorder as it used to freeze my phone up so I would tend to recommend Vito Audio Notes. A secondary program is ONLY needed if you want to Auto Record Conversations or if you want to record in mp3 format (as ICR doesnt support this).

Alternatively you can install the following cab and soft reset your phone. It adds 3 registry settings to your phone that seem to work perfectly on alot of HTC devices to enable 2 way recording:

Did you wait until AFTER a call had been established before going to the dialier menu to start recording?

If you have a dialer skin installed then try this:
1. disable dialer skin, soft reset.
2. install ICR.
3. check if the "start recording" pops up in the dialer menu while calling. If it does, click start recording, wait a couple seconds, hang up.
4. Activate dialer skin again and soft reset.

See if that helps... Otherwise it could be a radio issue

There are plenty of different floating around that have been skinned for various resolutions. The important part is the drivers and I would think they are the same for all HTC devices at least. You dont ever have to run ICR directly if you use a secondary recording program such as VITO Audio Notes. As long as you can get the "Start Recording" function to display in the dialer screen then it should still work fine to record both sides of the conversation.

I can only verify that this works perfectly on the HTC Kaiser (with a little trial and effort). The drivers should work for other HTC phones but I cannot be certain. It something thats recently popped up on the XDA Forums and I thought I would share the information since PPCWAREZ has served me well for a long time.

You can also record calls by first initiating a call and then creating a "Note" then press Menu > View Recording Toolbar & then hit the Record button. However this is a limited record interval, meaning it will only record perhaps less than a minute. However you keep hitting the red "Record" button to continue recording more of the conversation.

Well i'll be damned, I never knew it was that easy.
Thanks for the tip! :)

Only problem is that I called one of my supervisors office number, got the machine, spoke into it "this is a test of in call recording using the recording toolbar...", then hit the end key only to realize that I hung up and that voicemail will now be going out to her.

That ought to give her something to ponder over...
