Net Caller ID v0.0alpha (Freeware)
Requirements: PPC WM6 - Works only in USA
Overview: It's basically an enhanced Caller ID. On incoming SMS or phone calls a window pops up that displays:
- The full name of caller.
- Address of caller with a map link.
- The number of FTC and caller complaints (to tell if it’s a spam call).
- Telco name and location (can tell what carrier the call is from).
- Relatives of caller (with age).
- Criminal History.
Other features include ability to add the caller to the contacts book, return the call, and look at past calls.
Image

- NetCallerID waits until the call is answered or finished before doing the network calls. For the most part, the network connection is unavailable until the phone call is ended.
- If roaming is enabled NetCallerID waits until your out of roaming.
- All history of calls are in the program files\netcallerid\calllogs directory in html format. You can view these with Opera or Pocket IE.
- The setup automatically starts the program. I also put it in \Windows\Startup to start when you re-start the phone.
Net Caller ID is very alpha. Use at your own risk and stuff.

Really... this sounds interesting. Sucks that it doesn't work until AFTER the call ends but makes sense since as the author states, data dies when calls are in place.

I'm under the impression that this works best in the USA as their databases are pretty much loaded with info.

Doesn't seem to work with photo contacts on my fuze. If this is loaded photo contacts page wont display. It's to bad because it is cool software, but I gotta have photo contacts working.

"NetCallerID waits until the call is answered or finished before doing the network calls. For the most part, the network connection is unavailable until the phone call is ended."

Once the call has ended and this program 'does the network calls', does anyone know what network or phone number this program has your phone dialing to retrieve this information?

I am assuming that is how it works per the above quoted statement and there is no way all that info is stored in a 750K cab file.

I think it's referring to data usage. You'd need a data package or wifi.

ok, not a problem, to what site does this connect to in order to retrieve this info?

does anyone know? I sure want to know before my phone connects to it with any open communication.

I did look on the author's site and did not find even a mention of this software or the database.

Yeah, I checked the author's site for info as well and there was NO mention whatsoever of this software.
It probably checks the usual sites. Pipl, whitepages, infospace etc...
I haven't installed it myself so I don't know. I tend to be vary wary of Alpha releases. I don't mind testing things but I HATE solving issues Alphas may cause.

I wish my windows machine was working so I could peek inside the cab and see who what or where it hooks up with and what it does when it's hooked up. Neat idea but the unknown bothers me even more than the alpha. btw, do any of you recall the vid camera program released here that would run in a loop and even with the device asleep?

traffic camera or something like that. I've searched until I've made myself cross-eyed and fingers nearly bleeding ;-)

I thought I had bookmarked the developers site but I'm unable to find any such bookmark.

I don't know what video camera software you're talking about, sorry.
Only traffic cam thing I know of is Traffic Edge. I use that to see the traffic cams in the city.

I opened the .cab file since you mentioned it. I don't know anything about programming or whatever but I viewed the files in a text editor and in one of the files - NETCAL~1.002 I came across this.

I just extracted the main URLS and maybe a bit of code/etc... lol seems that some of the addresses have strings in them
for the searches. Anyway, this at least gives an idea of what's going on but remember, I'm not a programmer and I just stripped this out with notepad so there may be more to it.

thanks, I actually recalled I had posted on it and just simply checked my posts.

That is the one and I'd like to see how well the one without the control or limits does work
