ShrinkSms Light v1.0 (Freeware)
Requirements: PPC WM5, WM6
Overview: ShrinkSms is a new Windows Mobile messaging application which can save you money when sending long SMS messages. As the maximum length of SMS is 160 characters (English language), each message longer then that will result in sending two or more SMS messages and as a result higher payment. ShrinkSms came to solve this issue with a 50% statistically compression rate.

Each message is encrypted and shrinked so it will take less characters then the original message. In addition the application holds a built in word list (similar to T9) which contains more then 700000 words.

The application works both on QVGA and VGA device.

ShrinkSms can be used as regular SMS (English language) application (without the compression option).

Installation:
Extract ZIP to any folder and start ShrinkSms.exe.

How to get the best compression results from ShrinkSms.
ShrinkSms support regular SMS messages but a higher compression rate can be achieved if used as follows:
- Use the built in word list.
- Do not use upper case letters.
- Do not join words or use shortcuts.
- Use only space character between each word (avoid using "enter" key).

One question: Does the receiving party have to have ShrinkSms installed to decrypt the sent message? If so, this is pretty useless...

I can understand this application being useful 10 years ago, but with text message packages being so cheap these days it seems a little redundant. Plus it appears the receiver will need this software so that's a total of 0 people I could use it for.

Well, just understanding the basics of encryption tells you that the receiving party will need this software to be able to decrypt it.

I agree. You should contact your operator and ask for a SMS plan if you really think you're sending loads of them. The benefit of this software will be minimal.

Simply use email or messaging instead of crazy expensive SMS!

Yeah yeah, now come the complaints about data plan prices again... Did you guys ever calculate how much you pay per MB if using SMS?!? To help you a bit... 1 MB equals about 6500 SMS messages!

This is such a pathetic software. There is absolutely no use for it. If the Light version only allows you to compress when its under 160 characters and the recipient must have the software installed as well.

I disagree. If it works well that would be awesome. Even if both parties need to install it so what? You and a few close friends you send long messages too, very helpful.

I tried texting my brother a joke yesterday, I was 900 characters over limit. Didn't want to bombard him with 10 texts in a row at work, and having to read it in bits would have killed the punchline.
