With my HTC Alpine (WM 2003) I still prefer to do the backup via ActiveSync (and my Notebook, of course), but with my HTC Universal I prefer Sprite Backup (verson 5.1, not this).

No, it doesnt. The SD card must be backuped manually.

No, you havent. There is no needing to reset (soft reset?) your device if you take out and put back the SD in your device. The SD will be seen immediatly (after few seconds) from its insertion without problem. Try.

Same thing. No soft reset needed for SD estraxtion and/or change.

yeah i meant soft reset
are you sure?
try it, install programs like spb pocket plus....etc, take the sd card out, put it back in, one of the two things will happen, first it will soft reset itself after a few seconds, or when you put the card back in, nothing will happen, your ppc just freezes.
i have an older ppc, three years ago (lol, my dad brought it but he does not use it anymore so i am using it)

Do not confuse "Today Plug-In & Task Manger" (as Spb Pocket Plus) with normal application (as, for instance TomTom or Lingvosoft Dictionary).

Normally, all Today Plug-In and Task Manager and all "system process" depending application MUST be installed in main memory (or Storage if you have it).
For other (generic) applications, they can be installed in SD or Storage or CF (if you have it) as well, and changing SD "on fly" it is always allowed.

But, of course, I am speking for all ppc I have use in my life, and my "older" experience has been with HP iPAQ 6140 WM2003 PocketPc Phone Edition. But what I said to you is valid for that ppc too.
