Sarah, thanks a lot for this cute app. Would you please think of upgrading to VGA and possibly WVGA resolution?

Thanks Apienk for your help with the Polish SD Card problems. If your latest unicode text file works I will include it in the Polish fileset. I feel it is a language system problem too.

I could create a pure VGA version of the program CAB. The only problem is that the graphic images would still be in the smallish QVGA size. I could create the software so that the larger screen can hold more than one picture/text data screen at once.

The ideal VGA screen would be with larger bird illustration/map/photo images. To do this I would have to re-create the bird illustrations again, at a larger size. It would be a fair bit of work. (If I merely used Paintshop Pro or Photoshop to resize the images to a larger size the result would possibly not be good.)

What would your requirements for a VGA version be? Bigger pictures, more info on screen? Any thoughts?

Would you be willing to try out a VGA version for me? (I only have QVGA PPC at present).

I'm afraid my main mistake was starting installation using CAB 2.4.0. only. As I've understud now (better late than never) I should have install a basic part of the app. (2 3 4 ?) then upgrade using CAB 2.4.0 and then as you've wrote. I will try tomorow morning and let you know. Thanks a lot.

Just a thought... the CAB 2.4.0 is the full program (minus data folder) and not an upgrade to a previous CAB.

You need to have the bird data folder PBEdata on your SD card, of course.

I followed Apienks suggestions... and it works! with polish names of birds. Apienk you were quite right, although still there was the message about previous system version.
I installed the app. using CAB 2.4.0 only, before having PBEdata on S-Card. The program is excellent in spite of too low resolution as for 3.5" screen.

First, including my SDCARD.txt file in the distribution is a bad idea because the name of the SD Card is actually different in my phone (Karta pamięci) and anbo's (Moja pamięć) although both have Polish WM 6.1. Seems that cell operators or device manufacturers can brand their ROMs differently. Instead I would suggest autodetecting the SD Card using folder attributes or making the user choose the folder within a standard WM filesystem dialog.

When I asked you about a VGA version I obviously meant higher resolution bird pictures. So, yes, you would have to rescan if you had not retained hi-res scans before shrinking them to QVGA. Resizing QVGA to VGA in Photoshop would only blur the images. I am ready to test your VGA version. Please PM me when you have it.

It would be great if you could make the main 'index1.txx' text file in Swedish. I could then create the extra habitat and group lists (using Editor program) and post Swedish with the othe languages

Translating the bird description text files is a pretty big job!

PBE 2.4.1 UPDATE

Here is an executable-only download to update v2.4.0.

I have fixed a possible problem with the software not displaying ALL of a bird's text information in certain situations.

This should only be useful to those who are creating their own text information files for each bird in their own language.
