I am very disapointed :( the program can't locate PBEdata. I used the program to locate it (in "\Carte SD\PBEdata\"), I saved it but same result.
I have put the PBEdata folder at the root of my memory card as indicated and the "SDCARD.txt" seems to be OK.
What can I do?
Thank you for your answer.

Hi, Sorry to hear your problem...

What was the exact error message text?

What is the exact text in the SDCARD.txt file?

Have you checked that there are files within the PBEdata folder? (This sounds dumb but check anyway) :)

Thanks for this language, Skraem!

I will add it to the languages pack on the main post :)

Sounds: Extract to MP3... simply rename the audio file extension from '.MPX' to .MP3'

Text: Extract to TXT... simply rename the text file extension from '.TXX' to '.TXT'

Images: Extract to JPG... simply rename the image file extension from '.JGX' to '.JPG'

In other words... all media files are 'normal' txt, mp3, jpg files but the final character of the filename extension has been changed from its normal character to an 'x'. Just change it back to use it.

(The reason for this is that there are over a thousand media files and they were being detected by media players/photo viewers, etc. This was causing problems due to the huge amount of files concerned. With file extensions changed to '**X' these media players ignore them happily ;) )

MAKING A LANGUAGE TRANSLATION

If you make one please do share it on this site!

Change all the TXX file extensions to TXT so you can edit them, OR... you can choose to open a TXX file with Windows' mouse-right-click. The popout menu offers 'Open....' and you can choose NotePad - check the little checkbox that says 'always open this file type with this program'. After you open a TXX file this way it will always open with notpad and you will not have to change all the file extensions to the normal TXT.

In the PBEdata folder are all the individual bird information files.

In the PBEdata/LISTS folder are the bird category lists. You should change the file 'index1.txx' (change to txt to edit). This is the ONLY list you need to change. REPLACE all the common bird names with those of your language. Don't edit the Latin names or the Reference number and DO NOT add extra spaces to the list.

Once you have your main index1.txx list you can run the software and choose the List Editor from the menu. The Editor will load your new index1.txx file. Use the List Editor to create the other list categories in the LISTS folder.

Or you could simply edit each of the lists manually, but it is much easier with the Editor :)

Have you got the file: "nosound.mpx" in your PBEdata folder?

If not then put any file there and rename it to "nosound.mpx". (The program uses this file to check if the folder has known files in it.)

If you DO have it then let me know..

thanks for all the explanaitions

the list is already transleated in french, I'm only gonna work on the 600 text files in TXX to replace them by french text.

It is gonna be a long work pf copy/paste

I'am not going to translate the english text but I will take the text from well know ornithologist french website :

http://www.oiseaux.net/oiseaux/france.html

If there are other french people that would work on this with me, it's gonna take less time, for exemple if we were 6 people, we could do each one a hundred of text files.

for the sounds, I 'm gonna try to extract all "rapace" sounds to build my own "anti pigeon machine" and see if it works.

Hi Karma

You said 'The text in the sdcard.txt: "\Carte SD\PBEdata\". It should be:

\Carte SD\

Change this to the above!

If this doesn't work then...

I have compiled a special PocketBirds.exe file for you.

http://rapidshare.de/files/48038589/PocketBirds.exe.html

It has your card address hard-wired into it. It also does NOT check for nosound.mpx file.

I look forward to this work! When it is finished I will be happy to include it in the French language version.

ok please every one forgive me because I 'm gonna speak french but it's easier for me to explain to french people how to help me to translate the application in french :

http://www.oiseaux.net/oiseaux/france.html

alors, partant ??
