VGA TEST
Sorry guys... I forgot this file. It should go in the PBE_VGA_beta folder with the exe.
http://rapidshare.de/files/48203660/FMODDevice.rar.html
Here is a screenshot of this VGA test program on a VGA device...

It looks ok, doesn't it
(the bird is small because it is from the QVGA program's data files).
I am hoping that you will all have a similar display result. If so then I can finalise the VGA version

Have not come across such a program.
But I intend to write such a program (using the basic Pocket Birds program code).
I have a book of trees for that purpose.
Also European butterflies and moths.
And Gemstones too.

Trees program: Guileppe.. what categories would you like to see trees separated into?
When I was looking at a Trees program I noticed that they are separated into habitats rather than countries or parts of the world. It seems that trees from everywhere are widespread across Europe due to planting by humans. The only obvious categories I can see are the environments, like cold and snowy, temperate, etc. Am I missing something?
I know some trees fit into other categories like deciduous, evergreen. how would you divide trees into groups?

Hi Sarah,
Thanks again!
I regret to say that you probably forgot some other files. After adding the missing file mentioned above, starting the VGA version the program could not find the path to the datafile, while the QVGA could find it nicely.
I tweaked the files myself by adding the five fc-files to the VGA subdir. After that this issue was solved after providing the proper directions.
For what it is worth (no big deal but may be an issue later?): on the opening screen of the VGA version (that disappears quickly), the lower part of v 3.4 cannot be seen the screen. Unfortunately I cannot make a screen-capture, because this screen disappears too fast.
Also there seem to be some more issues in the VGA version:
GPS: a file (GPS_Rv, which should show a button) seems to be missing
The editor gives the following error: An error occurred on sub_main_mnuruned_click. Win32exception, continue?
Bird topography: file cannot be found
Note: I have not tried the GPS before. Now I did but it was not clear to me: How should it be working, after switching it on and reporting a COM-port, where is the program supposed to leave the GPS-information?
I do not see much information in the manual v 3.3.0 on the usage (after switching it on).
Suggestion: add a note in the program like "about PBE" which shows the actual version of the program
regards,
Alfred

These missing sd card detection files were included in the CAB beta (released above)![]()

Smart thinking, Alfred! I appreciate your efforts.

OK. I guess this is because VGA devices have much faster processors than my QVGA ppc. I will extend the splash screen time.

It was another file I missed, SorryBut these are all present in the CAB beta I posted for test (above)

yes, I will update the manual to give a greater explanation, rather than just the 'how to set up' stuff.
Suggestion: add a note in the program like "about PBE" which shows the actual version of the program
I will do that![]()

Thankyou Alfred, for taking the time to do this. As far as I can see, from your testing, the VGA exe is working ok. I believe the CAB posting (above) will work fine now. These test files can be deleted and the VGA CAB may be installed as normal. This should work

POCKETBIRDS VGA 3.4.2 - CAB (Beta)
Here is the CAB beta of the VGA version of PBE.
http://rapidshare.de/files/48208965/PBE_342_VGA_ARM.CAB.html (1.4mb)

The VGA beta version screen shot...
Copy to PPC and double-tap to install. It will require the PBEdata folder on your SD card (or the test PBEdata folder).
Note: the current QVGA PBEdata folder has small QVGA images. I intend to release this folder with larger images for this VGA version.
ALSO: Main post with3.4.2 VGA-Desktop version and QVGA version added

I appreciate the tests. I think I missed a file with the first error you all had.
The second one is stranger but I am determined to get this VGA version working![]()

It is probably a silly little error on my part
it works fine now, here are my screens with wvga. any chance that the fotos are visible?

I intend to create bigger images for this VGA version but they will not be full screen as the originals are not that big.

There is a 'show photos' menu option. Find it in Habitats/Options Soft Menu.
And thankyou for the screen pictures - it all seems to be working.

What would a proper close button look like?
Would you like an 'Exit Program' menu option in the main menu?
This is the sort of thing I was thinking about too. Now that the hard work of coding the bird program is done it would be fairly easy to make other 'nature' versions, like Trees, Butterflies, etc.
