Omnibuntu - Ubuntu for Samsung Omnia (i900) v0.0.3public (Freeware)
Requirements: PPC WM6.1 or WM 6.5 - A Samsung i900 (also called Player Addict in France or Omnia)
Overview: Since now more than 1 month, i'm working on porting a VERY lightweight ubuntu version on my omnia. Now it's done (but just a "demo", because there is no keyboard, so only mouse ^^)

Not at all usable for today’s uses. This is NOT a classic ubuntu, not the one you will find in a live cd or even after setup. GUI isn’t realy the same, and it is a veeeery lightweight version. So, this is a demo if you want. Gotta work on it. All on this version is light. so, please, be indulgent. And sent me feedback here or on my email admin<(i hate spam)at>fladnag<dot>net
I highly recommend that EVERYBODY read the How To. That’s not at all the same setup that andromnia. ^^

Last thing : don’t use the Andromnia kernel : it will not work (due to the touchscreen, of course)

I'm the maintener of this project, so if you have a problem, i'm listening !

By the way, i'm alone on this project, so be indulgent ^^

FILES :

Setup instructions, tutorial with pictures and special for dummies (PDF format) ~1MB
The kernel (CAB file, and after install a shortcut in your "Programs") and the How To (PDF format) ~4MB
The Root filesystem to extract to the second partition of your card (see How To for further instructions) ~200MB

Hi !

Yes, this is a samsung omnia only release (at least the kernel).

If somebody has ported a kernel (Image or zImage file), maybe you could try : install like the tutorial, and replace zImage in My device/Program Files/OmniUbuntu, then try to run shortcut.

Would this perhaps work on a Samsung SCH-i760? Also I take it that it's sorta of a dual boot on a PPC, Boot into WM > Open OmniBuntu Through Programs... Correct?

Yes, that's that.

You can try on your SCH-i760, maybe it works...

Aye fladnaG justa suggestion and speculation... But have you ever thought about trying to load an onScreen uBuntu keyboard in this since we already have a mouse it should have no problems recognizing the mouse clicks of the onScreen keyboard? Maybe also making it autoStart once OmniBuntu loads, and jus stays in the background resources until you need it or come across something that requires the keyboard.. That could prolly fix the not having a keyboard issue if it works.. Also does this use uBuntu package manager or normal small uBuntu applications?
