A useful program (I'm a professional geo, so I have a perspective on this)

The UI needs a zoom for the piccies, though

WVGA

The jpg's can be re-sized in say, Xnview or similar, but in your minerals program they show up too small (about 1/2 screen). One also needs to be able to zoom the piccie for detail in some selected section for true field use

Still, your subject matter here is a step forward from butterflies :)

Yes! A quantum leap forward into brainy-person zone! :o I don't understand a bit of it! : :) But as long as smart folks like you like the software it is worth the time writing it. ;)

I am preparing a new larger sized set of pictures for both QVGA and VGA/WVGA, for the next point release.

If I released the pics at, say, 800x600 size, the folder would be maybe 200 -300mb in size. Way too big for PPC use. Zoom would only be possible with large images of that size.

As you are a professional geologist is there anything you would like to see in this software?

Thanks

Sarah

1) Not too big at all - that's what 16/32Gb micro-SD cards are for !! Remember that detailed sat-Nav maps of geographically large countries, or those with highly developed road systems such as Italy, can be way over 100Mb but zoom just fine. People who can use this type of program already KNOW the size of the databases

2) Failing that, please publish a list (preferably ASCII) that correlates the mineral name with the jpg name in \MINdata. Eg. mo556.jpg = ?? This is because the photos are really very good at 800 x 600 so if I could create a batch file to correlate-name them automatically, I could use the photos in some jpg editor for zoom etc and use your program for the chemistry, optical properties and so on

This has real potential - work with us here :)

All computerised program arrays I have ever found useful in my field (over 30 years now) are actually a combination of more than one program. Applied Geology is a very broad field

Later (really must manage my time better) I've attached a jpg of a zoom for photo m0595 as an example, although the resolution limits for attachments on this website have forced a drop in clarity

Hi Sarah.....

I have a problem.... I keep getting an out of memory error on both my I-Mate PDA-N (wm5) and XDA Orbt (wm6.1)... both have plenty of memory free and am able to run any other applications that require a lot of spare RAM/memory etc.

any ideas

regards
Lohtse

Sorry to hear that. :?
When does this error occur? At startup or after longer use?

Hi Sarah

The error occurs at the start as it tries to load the database etc..
