Release Tester's Review

Tested/Working for Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 and Windows Mobile 5

Review: First and foremost, The new PocketBreeze 5.2 puts your schedule on your Today screen. It attractively occupies the center screen position of the illustration below, even providing its own Windows theme and application skin to harmonize the overall screen. This new release is fully skinnable, leaving the limits of its appearance to the skinner's imagination. A host of talented folks make skins for PocketBreeze, most of which are available on the SBSH forums. And for those who hungry for more free skins they can be downloadable via SBSH site. PocketBreeze is almost infinitely configurable. Almost all behaviors may be changed to suit the user. The user may even specify the underlying Personal Information Manager (PIM) software to use when working with individual appointments, tasks, etc. Special compatibility and support come built-in for Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion.

PocketBreeze 5 follows the general motif of Microsoft Outlook. It uses the same colored bars to the left of appointments and informative icons to the right to document the presence of alarms, notes, recurrence, privacy, etc. If the user limits each appointment to one line on the screen, they may tap on the line to have it display fully. Double tapping on an appointment opens it in the pre-selected PIM.

The day title bars add even more information. In addition to the day and date, they can display a bar that indicates the day's activity. The size of the activity bar may be adjusted, as can the hours that it covers. This provides quick insight into free times available. Tapping on the '-' icon next to the day title collapses that day's appointments under the day heading. Tapping and holding on a day title opens a context menu, enabling the creation of new appointments and tasks with or without templates, collapse that day or all days entries, open Calendar or Tasks, or open the popup calendar.

Tapping on the information icons to the right of appointments and tasks can bring up their information in your native PIM. Tapping on the note icon brings up a small window with the note's contents displayed. The window's text zoom may be adjusted.

Tapping and holding on an entry brings up a context menu with actions available. These permit you to manipulate the entry in a host of ways. Reschedule… pops up a calendar display which will be covered below. Tapping on a date on the popup calendar moves the item to that day. The Options… selection opens the PocketBreeze 5 Options screen. This can be handy if you have elected to hide the Options icon on the top bar.
PocketBreeze also supports category icons and colors to readily identify particular types of appointments. If the user desires, the time-status bars may use category colors instead of the standard Outlook status colors in front of appointments. The distribution file includes a number of VGA and QVGA category icons to get you started. PocketBreeze can also be set to use the category colors and icons from Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion. Very flexible and convenient.

New to version 5.0 ?, tabs may also be placed on the side of the main PocketBreeze display. Placing them on the side allows more tabs to be visible for immediately selection. You may disable tabs that aren't needed or won't be used to save icon space, CPU time, and memory.

The settings: Accessing PocketBreeze’s options is simple. Just tap on the tool icon to get the context menu. Select Options… from the menu. The same selection exists on other context menus and as a separate shortcut for your launcher. The tool icon menu also allows the user to minimize PocketBreeze 5 and collapse the listings under their headings.

PocketBreeze has a dizzying array of options available, all intelligently organized in categorized screens. The screen shot above displays the option screen categories. Each category holds a host of individual settings that may be adjusted to the user's tastes. Font face and size, colors, D-pad actions, how to display tasks with or separately from appointments, default PIM, category icons/colors, tab locations, custom tab settings, appearance of individual display elements, skins, and a host of other preferences make PocketBreeze one of the most customizable programs on the market. :D

The Hardware: PocketBreeze 5 supports both QVGA and VGA devices. For those who use QVGA or another utility to force VGA, PocketBreeze has two settings to accommodate this mode without the user having to manually select larger fonts and icons. It worked flawlessly. In fact, I found PocketBreeze to be the most trouble-free of all the apps that I've run in "true" VGA mode.
Remember -- PocketBreeze 5 supports Windows Mobile 2003, 2003SE, and WM5 as well as older PPC 2002 devices. It truly looks great on them all.

The Good:
- Display/track/manipulate appointments, tasks, notes, email messages, and more.
- Seamless integration with Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion.
- Context menus virtually everywhere for quick access to relevant functions.
- Unlimited custom tabs for Today screen plug-ins with flexible memory management.
- Horizontal or vertical tab placement.
- Powerful display filtering.
- Category colors and icons.
- Seemingly unlimited customizability in appearance and function.
- VGA and Windows Mobile 5 support.
- Unmatched technical support.

The Ugly:
- A bit slow coming out of Options if loaded in Built-in Memory.
- Not having it on your Today screen.

Rating: 9/10

Sorry, but imho has this app nothing to do with Resco Explorer.
This app is like Spb Diary to display your agenda on the today screen.
And btw: I installed both Resco Explorer and PocketBreeze and they work together without problems, so no need to uninstall Resco.

Spbdiary is giving only on 'organizing' function and it is different to Pocketbreeze v5.2 which is give you extra function and is more what you dream for....just try my friend...worth it :!:

And if you have 1Gb or 2Gb external card you don't have to worry about 'eating' space....
