Advanced Release Tester's Review
Pointui Home v1.01b
Tested/Working on: PPC WM5, WM6
Not working on: PPC 2002, 2003(SE)
Rating: Originality: 7/10 - Quality: 7/10 - Performance vs similar products: 8/10 -- Average: 7/10
Review: Almost all PocketPC users are looking for a well-designed finger-friendly today screen in which they can manage missed calls, messages, tasks and running programs. There are a few convenient tools in this category such as Vito GoodWin and TouchCommander and now Pointui Home as a freeware tool represents almost everything a user needs in an integrated user-friendly interface.
• Interface (8/10): The most important part of such tools is the interface where all the commands, shortcuts and settings are placed. The user interface is designed precisely and icons are well categorized in different pages and menus. Moving through pages is as easy as dragging your thumb to the left or right on the screen, you can also scroll up and down by moving your finger in the same direction. Smooth animation and transitions add nice 3D effects to it as well. Although there are two options to change the way you scroll pages, sometimes while you're trying to move to the next or previous page, you may accidentally execute a program since shortcuts are triggered by a single tap on them. It would be better if shortcuts were executed by double-tap.
• Features/Settings (9/10): Locking the screen, toggling flight mode, bluetooth and wifi and changing the volume settings as well as displaying battery status, number of missed calls, unread emails and messages, analog and digital clock, calendar, tasks, etc. in the home screen are just some of Pointui Home features. There are also some options and settings which help you customize this tool in the way you want.
• Install/Uninstall (5/10): When installation and removal come to decision making, Pointui Home becomes a disappointing tool. As already mentioned, the user should remove all files and settings manually. Though removing files and shortcuts are easy, restoring the default shortcut of left soft-key demands more time and may sound complicated for novice users.
• Memory and Battery Consumption (7/10): It requires about 3MB of program memory while running and doesn't seem to be a power consuming tool. The startup loading is fast and there's no significant delay in the page transitions.
Conclusion: Pointui Home is a convenient finger-friendly home screen with several useful and practical features. As a conclusion we can call it one of the best home screens for PocketPC, but some deficiencies prevent it from being a must-have tool.
Final Rating: 7/10
