WisBar Advance Desktop v2.1.6.1
Requirements: WM5.WM6
Overview: WisBar Advance Desktop replaces your existing Today screen. You can create shortcuts, system meters, floating windows and virtual pages to extend the functionality of your PocketPC.
Image

WisBar Advance Desktop also supports most existing Today plugins. You can arrange them on multiple pages in order to maximize their usefulness.

Here are some key features of "WisBar Advance Desktop":
· Customize your home screen any way you wish
· Add multiple pages to increase the information available at your fingertips
· Run in "low-memory" mode in order to reduce the amount of memory used
· Use animations when switching pages or showing/hiding docks
· Add widgets to your screen: Monthly calendar, Digital or analog clock, Images, Text to monitor the registry, Weather conditions, Grids for contacts, shortcuts or embedded objects, Display up to the next seven days of appointments, Status icons, Notifiers, and more!
· Use 77 variables to customize the information displayed on the screen
· Can download up to ten days of weather information
· Easily import themes created by other users and easily share your own creations!

Version 2.1.6.1
* Added the following custom text variables:
Weather Home - Day Forecast Date
Weather Visiting - Day Forecast Date
Weather Multicity - Day Forecast Date
These variables will display the date of the forecast, instead of the name of the day (i.e. February 6, 2009 instead of Friday).

* When using the hardware keys to start dialing, the phone dialer will now be displayed for quick dialing.

* Added the ability to specify an offset in minutes for the %GMT12:% and %GMT24:% custom text variables. To specify the offset, you would use this format:
%GMT12:5:30%
In the above example, the time will be GMT +5 hours and +30 minutes.

* Fixed the alignment of objects in an object grid.
* Fixed a bug in the object grids where the "Manually align items" option would not be remembered. This now allows the grids to allow their items to be lined up, instead of always centered.
* Fixed a bug with sliders that are on a dock.
* Fixed a bug that caused the program to not start up.
* Restricted the agenda object to 21 days of information in an attempt to stabilize the program.
* Fixed a bug with the --closeAll parameter in Tasks.exe.
* Added the ability to display tasks in the Agenda object.
* Added scrollbar support to the Agenda object.

Rating: Originality: 7/10 - Quality: 9/10 - Performance: 10/10 -- Average: 9/10
Comment: This build of Lakeridge's head product, Wisbar Advance Desktop, offers the widest range of customizations for your today screen. Unlike similar programs, this one gives you just objects and it's up to you how the theme itself will look, since you're not limited to any grid and everything is fully and easily skin-able. Usually, themes contains one main page with links (buttons) to another pages, for example weather or diary page. This is not in fact a today plugin, but an overlay-application and that's why sometimes it tends to close itself. I've found out that latest Opera releases are often closing WAD and vice versa. Anyway, you may add any desktop plugins (to any vertical position) to any page, variable or registry texts, buttons and images, weather icons, but even sliders or notifiers and status icons. This build is finally almost bug-free, and no item disappeared when I tested. Weather icons and notifiers, which were problematic before, are fine now. Smoothness mostly depends on number of items put on page, my theme with tens of elements was still running quite fast. Developer also included a "low-memory" mode for reducing the amount of memory used, but I didn't notice any performance improvement. If you're creative, at least a little bit, and you know what you want, you can create your very own theme with ease. Otherwise, you may choose from a vast theme library at official forum.
Required storage memory: WM5 - 5569 KB / WM6 - 5532 KB
Installation: Main memory and Storage card

Manual:
Image Step 1 - When you run you Wisbar Desktop copy for the first time, you see nice pre-installed theme. However, you can (and it's expected that you do) change, delete or add everything, scale starts with background and ends with custom sliders, grids and meters.
Image Step 2 - There are two ways changing the theme, either create you own or just download already developed (and usually heavily tested by community) skin from official forum. You can change theme by tap&hold on WADesktop, selecting Settings and pressing Change theme button. Assuming you've already installed the downloaded skin, just select it from list and set it as Portrait or Landscape, or both. If you can't see your theme, click on Scan For Themes. If neither this helps, you have to reinstall the theme, sometimes different location fixes issues.
Image Step 3 - Second way to customize you WAD is creating you very own theme. Just once again go to the Change theme menu, but now press the New Theme. Name it and don't forget to select it as Portrait/Landscape again.
Image Step 4 - Now you have just black&blank screen. We'll start with adding button to demonstrate how WAD works. Tap&hold on empty space (now everywhere since it's clear) and select Author Mode. Unless that you can't add elements nor move with them. Again t&h and see that tons of new options are available. For now click on the New. List of stuff that can be added is also vast, now we are going to create button as a simplest demonstration of usage.
Image Step 5 - You must define a Normal Image Path, that's shown normally, and optionally Pressed Image Path, that will be shown instead when pressed. To set what button do, click Edit Script, but don't worry, you don't have to write any code (unfortunately, it's not even possible).
Image Step 6 - This part is called Script Editor. You can add commands and order them. Higher runs before the ones at bottom, following command runs only when previous is completed.
Image Step 7 - Now just select action you want to assign to your button, for example Launch Application or Phone - Missed Call List, and click Done first time to return to Script Editor, second time close it and finally for the last time to close Button options
Image Step 8 - You can click your button and it will run the script you've entered. T&h on your Button element shows new menu. Move allows to precisely set item to position using d-pad, Bring to Front and Sent to Back are moving order of layers (the higher the more visible). Pinned is used for pinning element to all pages (will be described in Step 13).
Image Step 9 - We will overlook the Dock element, so add one to your current theme. You have to define the Name of dock, its used for hiding/showing it. Align is obvious, sets if dock should be docked on left, right, bottom, top or floating. As nearly every item, also Dock has the Script button (see Step 6 and Step 7). Hide the dock by default means whether the dock should be hidden when WAD starts or not. Hide after executing shortcut automatically hides dock after item is clicked. Image or Color needs no explanation.
Image Step 10 - Dock can hold other items which are moved, hidden or showed altogether. You for example may set your button's script to Dock - Toggle and then whenever you click it, selected dock either disappears or appears.
Image Step 11 - All the addable elements have similar options, image, pressed image and script, but some vary, for example Grid, but who knows English can easily understand what is each option for.
Image Step 12 - In the end, we can't not mention Pages. Try adding one by t&h on blank part of your theme and click Page and select New. New page with parameters as the one created from is here. Change it's name by getting the Page menu but now select Properties.
Image Step 13 - Page Name sets name of the page which is used it Text - WAD Page Name element, but also as a pointer for Script - WAD Switch to Page. D-Pad Support disables or set function for arrows/dpad on your device. Pinned Items, as already said, are visible on all pages, however you may 'unpin' them from certain page by unchecking them in this dialog. Gestures can work as iPhone page sliding or custom scripts for sliding stylus to top, right etc. And the very last tip: if you want to hide the top most windows bar, t&h on blank piece of WAD and select Page - Taskbar.
