There is no words for that action. A country invading its democratic neighboring country just because a demented one doesn't like the other's politics.

All my sympathy to the Ukrainian citizens

I live in Kharkiv. And now my city is on fire from Russian bombs and rockets fired at residential buildings and hospitals ... We used to live, and now we survive, but we will survive!

The very notion that Putin values his misguided love affair with the USSR and laments its collapse to such an intense degree that by the twisted logic of a megalomaniacal narcissist, invasion is an acceptable tactic, slaughter is a necessary evil and myriad instances of individual human suffering, with each story going beyond the extent to which the majority of us are even capable of imagining ... that's just the price of doing business. History will not be kind to Vladimir Putin, for as far as major world leaders go, he exists within a class of his own, a product of twentieth-century Soviet thought, trained by the KGB to ensure Russia's interests are both protected and promoted. And while I suppose it's indeed true that to a man armed with only a hammer, everything looks like a nail ... it's likewise true that to a man mentored and trained by the security services of a bygone tyrannical & authoritarian state, everyone is a potential torture victim, every state is a commodity ripe for the taking, and every adversary is a dead man walking; there is no refuge for the enemies of Putin.

Though let's try and focus less on the perpetrators of the violence and the misery. Instead we should contemplate the experiences and stories of the victims. How many victims are there without an ending to their story? Is remembrance not the very least they deserve? When you and all of your comrades are simultaneously dying of horrendous wounds inflicted by artillery fire and high-caliber rounds, your final words fade away, any final acts of bravery go unknown. The brave men and women defending their land are risking injury, death and even utter oblivion should their lifelong home save associates all perish alongside them. When you face an enemy not even of your people, but simply an enemy of your peoples' politics, all because a malevolent government has convinced young men to leave their homes save families, risking life and limb and all to protect the motherland. These are not evil people; they've been horrible deceived. From what I've seen of this most recent propaganda push, it has not been Russia's finest hour in the annals of wartime propaganda and false flags. I personally believe the propaganda has been intentionally sloppy, akin to the vehement denials of involvement in the Salisbury Novichok attacks, all the while denying after having chosen to make a very loud statement through the use of a brutal Soviet-era nerve agent, used in an attempted assassination of a Russian defector. I believe they intend for these actions to be blatant and obvious, observing how far we can be pushed and then continue to use our institutions against us. Subverting democracy and freedom using the very tools they seek to destroy.

And please, to anyone thinking that the Russians are evil, I can assure you they are not. My fiancée is Russian and she has a beautiful heart, though it's taken multiple years for me to undo the damage that decades of propaganda have done, but she is now very much on the side of the Ukrainians, horrified and ashamed by what her countrymen are perpetrating. And the Russians who remain under the spell of the ubiquitous wise and devious political lies and fabrications, they are not our enemies either; they are more insidiously imprisoned than even the Ukrainians sheltering behind rubble, currently under fire, because at least the defenders know what they're fighting for and know without doubt that their struggle is just safe righteous. Many of the Russian soldiers currently fighting won't understand why they've been ordered to. This is fifth generational warfare; the battlefield extends across the globe now - culture, intellectualism, technological-superiority, biting comedy, love & empathy, excellence in the sciences and keeping the zeitgeist-at-large centred around rationality and our traditional values that our enemies, both foreign and domestic seek to unravel, and this is why we must fight them. First with our speech in order to maintain our incredible Western culture, for if we find it too inconvenient to fight with language, rifle rounds will be far more anxiety-inducing. Speak out against what you know to be wrong, don't lay awake at night lamenting your cowardice.

Stand strong, Ukraine! Fight them wherever they appear and never surrender as your people know all too well what it is to live under the yoke of Russian hegemony. It's cowardly to say this as a non-combatant in a safe country, but I'd personally rather take a bullet than experience anything akin to the Holodomor or Chernobyl.

Disk4mat,

You don't have to worry about misconceptions. I saw a news article that said it was only 4 hours old and it was right after this started and it showed dead Ukrainian civilians that Russia had killed. The world is not seeing that Russia is only attacking your military. It's very scary what is happening. I'm in Canada and we are backing the Ukraine. I can't even imagine living an every day life one day and the next day the city I live in is under attack. You must be so afraid. I know the Ukrainian people are very proud and I saw news articles that the Ukrainian immigrants in Canada were leaving to return to the Ukraine to help the fight. I don't know what else to say. It's just very scary that something can happen just like that where it's not a third world country. Stay safe and know that the world sees Russia for the bully it is in this and that the Ukraine has the support of a lot of countries in the world and the only ones supporting Russia are countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union.

Hey, guys, sorry for some linguistics, but, please, please, stop using "the Ukraine". That was, probably, right when we were a part of the Soviet Union. Since our independence (and I'd say even before that) we are Ukraine! So, please, drop the "the"!
Just Ukraine! Independent and free!!!
Thank you!

Hello, I'm in France and here are some links we're finding useful:

https://www.supportukraine.co/ (excellent, reliable information on how to help Ukraine and its people stand against Putin and the Russian attack, with links to all major ongoing humaitarian efforts)

https://helpukraine.center/en (site available in Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch and Hebrew as well as English).

This document, still in the process of being updated, is a list of international volunteers and organizations who help Ukraine:
