After several road tests, I have to say that the latest iGo 8.3.2 is still lame, and here is why:
1. Refersh rate is much slower than 8.3.1. It was around 20fps, now it's about 2fps. Guess it is a new bug for version 8.3.2, since in simulation and fly over mode everything is very very smooth. Do you guys get the same refresh rate as in 8.3.1?
2. Routing still not good even iGo has started using NavTeq map (compared with Garmin routing results).
3. No announcement of destination on right or left. I know you could use some skin to display them, but why cannot they simply give voice prompt?
4. Before you start navigating, tomtom will display a dashed line to show you how to get on road and start driving. iGo won't do that and the map is in north up mode (why not show the map with the driving direction up?)
5. By the way, TTS sucks too, why does it need so much memory while iGuidance could use very little memory and still get the job done.

With iGo 8.3.1, there is a very annoying bug: after you plan a route when you are off route (in parking lot), if u drive around in the parking lot a few seconds instead of driving directly to the road, iGo will simply hang (looks like infinite route recalculation). I have to soft reset my PDA to start iGo again. And I need to be on the road to avoid the bug.

Good thing about iGo is as before, fantastic graphics (but now with relatively slow speed), panning map is really fast.

I am using Axim X51V and WM6.1, normally with about 28MB free RAM for use. I used the default skin and disabled all the fancy stuff (TTS, 3D building, elevated road, terrain etc).

polford wrote:hey folks,

just did a clean install of 8.3.2.x with lzfs latest v6 data zip. seems to work fine, though I couldn't test drive it yet. Recently I always had the problem of very very low fps performance with 8.3.2.x on my Touch HD.
I'll now try the above sys.txt with this clean install.
@touch hd users
you don't experience any performance issues with this data.zip and 8.3.2.x? As I said, it used to run fine in simulation and fly over, only when actually navigating and driving I had like max. 1-2 FPS screen refresh rate on my last efforts running 8.3.2.x .... reverting to 8.3.1.x immediately gave me good performance.

Hehe, that's crazy man. Strange thing is. I can run 8.3.2 on my x51v (I got one, too) absolutely fine from a performance point of view. But I get the exact slow performance you describe (compared to 8.3.1) on my HTC Touch HD !
I really don't get it. But I don't think it's a 8.3.2 problem. Somehow our installations must be fucked up or whatever. Or how do you explain. that 8.3.2 runs quite fast on my x51v and not on yours? And it does suck and give me slideshow graphics on my Touch HD? Strange, isn't it?

Weird enough. I just bought a new 8GB Sandisk Extreme III SDHC card and copied only the iGo 8.3.2 on it, and I still got slow refresh rate.

Do you have the same sys.txt file on X51V and Touch HD? Could you post your sys.txt for the X51V?

Thanks

I've managed to fix the "data_8.3.2_fixed_v6" issue with poi icons not showing when using branding.zip in conjunction with customized .kml poi (stored under userdata). Here's the fixed version of the file, just download and rename to data.zip.

http://rapidshare.com/files/172561254/data832RCKBLK.zip

Oh, yes, almost forgot: this is the trimmed version I use for 400x240 & 800x480. If you use other resolutions, just unzip & copy the file "multipoi.icon" (ui_igo/icons/poi) from my file to your original data.zip.

Hi All!

What do these lines mean in sys.txt? What do these set?

[debug]

supress_straight=0
supress_highway_enter=0
supress_trivial_left=0
supress_trivial_right=0

Thanks, Dokky.

guys, the slow refresh rate is related to the 'data.zip' file or the skin.

I had the very same slow display problem on my X51v when I first tried the newest R3 release.

Then I updated the 'data.zip' and added the diMka skin, I can't remember which solved the problem.

Try the newest fixed data.zip and then the newest diMka skin, one of them solved my
slow display update rate.

---
Also, I do have the crash problem when driving into a parking lot away from the road, it
mostly happens to me when using a 'via point'.

Here's a problem I've had with this version of IGO 8 and the first one I had as well. I consider this a SERIOUSLY annoying problem. Details:

Running on a Mio 310x
Whenever you turn off your PNA and turn it back on the brightness of the screen is dimmed. If you look in settings, it appears to be maxed, but if you drag the slider down and back up again, you'll see it jump much brighter as soon as it slides down just 1 notch.

So in the daytime, to be able to see clearly, I have to screw with that setting EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON. This has been driving me CRAZY!!!! Does anyone have a fix??? I never experienced this problem with Miomap 3.2 or 3.3, just since using IGO 8 and appears that it's still a problem in this release!

I have exactly the same with HTC Diamond.
But if u noticed now there is no GPS LAG... you position on map is really the same as on the road. Maybe this behaviour of 2 fps is wanted

Set the backlighting as you want it in the device menu.

Then exit the software and go to WinCE Ctl Panel and click on backlighting. Select "never dim" when power is lost or choose the longest time allowed (like 30 mins).

Then go to the SYSTEM.ini file in the Save Folder of igo8 and set the parameter "Power_mngt_state =2" (from the previous value of zero.

Dont change the device setting again, or you will have to redo all this.

Been reading several of these posts (not all of them) but haven't come across an answer yet. I've stripped down this package just to include the U.K /English parts of the program, I've added the patched data.zip so that I get the correct screen size, everything boots fine , I get the choose English screens then it continues but the it freezes when it gets to
"Initialising warning data " ,that's where it freezes every time. Does this not run on the 4.3" Navigo WS GPS unit, has this been answered in a previous post.Anybody can help please do whether with an answer or a link to the answer , thanks for reading,hope you can help. :D

I think there is a bug in the iGO8.3 software itself... whenever I am close to my destination the software keeps trying to recalculate the route. This happens with both Epsilon and Navteq maps of Greece.

Anyone else noticed that?
