WVGA POI ICON SETS FIX!

Ok guys, those of you who have custom POI sets that are causing a crash with WVGA....

I 'think' I've discovered a fix:

change your icon (".icons") files FROM this format

[Airport.Airline_Access]
$poi_mapdistant.bmp
$poi_mapclose_new.spr 46
poi_mapclose_new.spr 46

to THIS format

[Airport.Airline_Access]
$poi_mapdistant.bmp
$poi_mapclose_new.spr 46
$poi_mapclose_new.spr 46

NOTE the leading '$' at the beginning of the fourth line for each entry

This worked marvellously for me on my Touch HD, although I am yet to understand why!

I set a route to a certain destination - for example a city with an airport. After a few days, I accidentally erase that route. Today, I want to redo that route to that airport but, when I insert the city and I want to search POI arround that city, the prog can't find the airport. What should I do ?

Where did you add your custom poi icons?

I added a folder named ui_igo8 to the igo8 installation folder, placing the custom icons at ui_igo8/common and ui_igo8/common/night and the poi.icons file at ui_igo8\icons\poi. I edited the poi.icons file inside data.zip to include my custom poi.icons and I still have the same error after changing the .icons file like you said:

[Bancos.ATMS]
$poi_mapdistant.bmp
$Banco_ATM.spr 0
$Banco_ATM.spr 0

From the first post :

NOTE 2: NNG has removed TTS support from all PDA R3 releases because of compatibility issues, meaning TTS does not work with this or any other release in this thread

Thanks for the information, but does this mean the "patch" remove the feature ? Let's hope next release add TTS back...

Add the custom icons in ui_igo8\common\
Add your icons file (name it customicons.icons) in ui_igo8\icons\poi\

Don't do anything with your existing data.zip or branding.zip

make SURE your .icons file is unicode, this is extremely important and can be quite tricky to ensure

No, this issue is NOT caused by the 'patch'.
It is a policy decision by NavNGo (it seems), and probably stems from the difficulty in getting good performance with TTS across all phones/devices. So for the moment, TTS is only officially supported in PNA devices.

If you really DO need TTS, then you can use one of the PNA releases on your PDA and it will work just fine. On my Touch Diamond and HD devices I keep two igo8.exe files... one for PDA and one for PNA so I can choose have TTS support (using the PNA version of igo8.exe)

e.g.
igo8.exe <--- normal PDA version
igo8PNA.exe <--- PNA version (just renamed) to get TTS working

Thanks TheAnalogKid for all those details. As TTS is a good feature, will wait for a PNA version, it's not a real problem as the june one is working pretty well for me at the moment.

I would suggest to switch to 8.3.2.90500 (PNA build), which is having all the PDA advantages (Outlook POI import, TMCpro for Germany, functioning search in KML POIs) along with TTS support!
(IMHO currently the best version ever)

Thanks.

all pda versions show it.. and no way to remove blue arrow.....

Have you tried the following setting in SYS.TXT (thanks alik):
Code: Select all[3d]
show_guidance_strip=1 ; orange one on the street
show_guidance_arrows=0 ; blue one above the street

Thanks :) This is a very nice build with the TTS. I had hoped that TMCpro might work in North America (Canada and USA), but I'm still getting "CA-TMC (No Key)". Any ideas? I can't get the 8.0.0.29000 build to run properly on my device, but is there anything I could copy from that one that might help TMCpro?
