I disabled DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials on Firefox and it fixed the problem for me - thanks very much for the tip.
(Disabling DDG on Vivaldi didn't help, but maybe Vivaldi is natively doing whatever DDG does that causes the problem. I tried disabling all my extensions on Vivaldi and the problem remained.)

My issue was also related to DuckDuckGo. In addition to disabling DDG entirely, you can selective remove the Mobilism URL from protection provided by DDG. This allows the downloads to work correctly, but still leaves DDG functioning for other sites. Use the DDG Options to add forum.mobilism.org to the list of DDG Unprotected Sites. Hope this works and helps.

Update on Devuploads:
They have switched over to a new server so the filehost is working again now. The owner has also stated that tomorrow more servers will be added to further improve speeds.

On some filehosts (mainly dropgalaxy) you will get an empty file as a result of dead/expired links. You can click on the link manually and it should show you the error.

Drop.download is working fine, I just tested it. That filehost might (very) rarely give you that error if they're doing maintenance to their servers.
