Hello All,
Hoping for some kind soul to help me out with a frustrating Memory Map question.
I am running version 5.1.4 build 751 on a windows CE 4.2 unit. I have managed to upload maps and the program finds them fine,
however it does seem to be trying to use the wrong port for the GPS signal.
I have used NONI gps and it works well, using port COM1 with a baud of 4800.
I know the later versions of pocket navigator (and memory map) have the option to SETUP the GPS, but this version doesnt have it.
I get an error message saying 'GPS: Can't open COM port'.
Can I crack this in any way to direct it to the correct port. There is no settings folder in the software, so I cant tweak the 'GPS params' file
that I have seen advised elsewhere....

I have also tried the later version of the software that does have the GPS setup menu, but this shows up as unlicensed and doesnt give the functionality of the GPS!!
Please help...

Thanks.

Sorted it guys.
I used CERegeditor to change to com 1 and BINGO!!! Works instantly.

Just one further question though. How do I ensure that change is kept. Because of course it is only on the SD card, and that change gets reset with each switch on.
Can I access and change the flash memory? If so what program?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Tried to use "50 Best Walks in Britain Vol 1" but when opening the maps my version of memory map, 5.1.3, diplays the error, "temporary licence expired".

Just wondering if anyone has the same problem and if there is a workaround.

Thnx in advance.

Hi,

I mounted the image with Daemon Tools and then copied the overlay directory to my hdd. Then I just double clicked the index file to enter into Memory Map with no issues.

Hope this helps.

Hi there Chris,

I had already mounted the iso image and was able to get to the files ok.

The problem was opening the *.qct map files. Was just wondering if anyone was able to open/use them.

But you are right enough about the overlay files. They are usable and as long as i use my own 1:25.000 maps then there is no issue.

Hi Matt,

I'm running V5.2.7 and I've not had a problem opening the map files.

My first thought, do you have a legit copy of the software, can you update it to the current version?

Second thought would be that there is a version of the memory map software included with the disk images. Presumeably this is a full working version, otherwise how are people who buy just the walks supposed to use them? Have you tried to install this version?

Third, have you tried using a hex editor? There is a fix for using older maps with newer versions of the memory map software. Ordinarily, the maps have a crown copywirght protection built into them and to use them with newer versions of the software you have to edit them with a hex editor. If you open the memory map qct files with a hex editor and then scroll all the way to the bottom you will see "crown copywright" and a year. You either change the date to match the software version or what I do is change the crown to clown and thereby avoid any confusion over production dates.

I've opened a couple of the files with the free hex editor located here http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/. They are dated 2007 which may explain your problem. Edit them and change the date to 2004.

These are the only suggestions I have and may or may not work and come with no guarentees but are the only things I can think of.

Hi I have a problem, I can get the 125,000 maps to work on my Kaiser after changing the date in a hex program, but when I do it for the Landranger maps they work on my PC ( not working on PC before changing to clown copyright ) but not on the Kaiser ( ppc ) says failed to open file\storage card etc, but the map is in the right folder ( qct) memory maps. All the others work fine including GB road atlas. I am using version 5.13 any ideas please
Cheers Steve
PS I have tried changing it to "clown copyright " but makes no different

Hi Bavo,

I presume you are trying to access the map file from within the Memory Map prog. If so, have you tried using a file explorer and opening the map from there?
