I've copied the same map to my HX2790b and get the same error. I've googled it and as far as I can work out its because the map file is too big. If you send just the visible part of the map to your PPC you shouldn't the error.

Hi Chris, a pity as it would be nice to have the whole map on there, that really defeats the object of having the landranger maps unless you carry a laptop round your neck lol
Thanks for your help

Hi Steve,

I beginning to doubt what I read on google. I've loaded Area 11, a bigger file, onto my PPC and that loads ok. I've also done the same with area 9 but that fails to load. I have noticed that Area 7 has a blacked out area near the top left. Maybe there is a error in the file itself. I'll try and patch it with a piece from my main GB map and let you know how I get on.

Hi Steve,

I've done a bit of messing around and it seems to help if you open the area map from the main map screen rather than the file explorer on the map menu. It also seems to help if you open the map from a map in the same area, if that makes sense. IE I'm in Radcliffe, if I load the local 1:25K Radcliffe map, then on screen hold my pen to bring up the menu and from the onscreen menu select maps at cursor and then select Area 7, it seems to load ok. If I open the 1:2k for say Winchester and do the same the Area 7 map doesn't always open.

I did the same with area 8 and it seemed to be the same. If you dont have the 1:25k of you local area then send to your PDA a small visible portion of the area 8 map. Use this map as the default and then switch to the main map.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi Chris
Many thanks for all your efforts. I will try that asap. I am surprised that the memory map people havent fixed this error as its been around a fair few years now. Will keep you posted on how I get on.
Also what version are you using ? I am using 5.13 is that the latest ? As sure I saw summat about 5.27 or something. Would that make any difference ? If so do you know where I could get it
Cheers Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm using 5.2.7 and so makes no difference. If you have leigt copy of 5.1.3 then you should be able to upgrade free of charge at the memory map website. I've not seen a cracked copy of 5.2.7 come out yet. Not sure if cracked copies can be upgraded.

Hi Chris tried what you said and makes no difference. I held stylus to the 125 grimsby map ( which region 8 covers) and changed it to 150 it still came up map cannot be opened in storage card etc. I also tried using the same method on a portion of region 8 and still no good. Where did you see the problems on Google as I have searched and cant find much.
I have the Kentroup version of 5.1.3 ( use Kentroup log in details )

Quote "This is a known problem across many devices. I found serveral pages relating to it when I had the problem. It's to do with the data size of some 1:50K maps.

What you need to do is split these maps into 2. You need the right version of MM to do this.

Assuming you have the right version you can draw a route route half of the map and save the area contained within the route as a map. Do this for both halves and then you will be able to send them to your PDA. "

Any idea what version you need to do this Chris

Also found this
"I've sent the map to my PDA but when I try to open it I get the error 'Failed to open file …'

This will most likely be because the map you have sent to your PDA is over 400MB and therefore cannot be opened. Please refer to the Send Visible Map Portion or Send Enclosed Map steps above to send a smaller area.

If you are using a Windows Mobile 6.1 based PDA you may find that it will not open maps larger than the 400MB limit. This appears to be caused by the new memory arrangement in WM 6.1 devices not allowing enough free memory for programs like Memory-Map to use. Try reducing the size of the maps you send to your PDA to see what works best for your particular device."

Dont get this as the map is 307 mb
After reading some more on forums it seems WM 6.1 is causing the problem a shame as I like 6.1 gonna try 6.5 rom. will let u know how it goes

Hi Steve, no idea what version you need to do the route and half a map ting but I'll try it on mine and see what happens. I'm using WM6.1, have already tried 6.5 on my 2790b and it wouldn't run Memory Mapo at all and I had to re-install 6.1!
