BlackFlip v0.5 (Freeware)

Overview: BlackFlip is a Polarium clone, an easy to play (but hard to finish) puzzle game perfectly suited for stylus play.


The rules of the game are really very simple : there are black and white tiles which need to be flipped so that each row is either all white or all black... Different lines can even have different colors. Yes, as simple as that !
But the twist is that you can only do a single path, which can't overlap with itself. To draw that path, simple click on the puzzle, and move around. You can backtrack at anytime. To validate the path, simply click on the destination point and it'll flip all the tiles !

The grey border around is a neutral zone : no flipping on it, and it's not involved in the color check. So you can move on that one as if you were moving in and out of the puzzle. Doesn't sound like much, but using the grey tiles effectively is the key to solving the hardest puzzles. The games main feature is it's incredibly hi number of puzzles : more than 6000 !!! These range from very easy (0 stars, solvable in a few seconds) to very hard (5 stars, only solvable in a few minutes and by advanced players)...

ALL the credit for the game idea goes to Mitchell Corp. for creating the original Polarium game (for Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance). If you like this game, considering buying one of those versions, the author definitely deserves the money !

Blackflip Pocket PC is a port from the flash version by [F]laboratorium.org. All the credit for the graphics and the levels go to them and all the users who contributed to making/sharing all these puzzles. The game will be updated regularly to have up-to-date versions with the latest levels !

Comment: Humans have always been fascinated by puzzles, perhaps as a reflection of a natural tendency toward curiosity. The earliest evidence of puzzles dates to the 2nd millennium BC in the Middle East. Oral puzzles are probably as old as human language, but the earliest known written puzzle, a riddle inscribed on a tablet, dates to Babylonian times (beginning about 2000 BC).
BlackFlip is not an innovative puzzle but the goal of the game is neat and challenging. The aim of the game is to remove all tokens from the board. To achieve this, you have to draw a path over the board using the stylus. All tokens underneath this path will change their color to the opposite. It's not mandatory to change all tokens on the board to the same color. It is only important that all tokens in a row are either black or white.
The graphical objects are distinctive for this type of games and smooth animation is beyond the expectancy. Absence of sound effects and background music don't count as disadvantage. Comparing this version with previously developed beta versions, emphasizes on some great improvements such as more user-friendly menus, faster animation, random puzzles.
Having more than 6000 puzzles in one package rated and categorized by size and difficulty is the first thing you will notice as soon as running BlackFlip. You can use stylus in order to play but hardware buttons are not supported yet. On the other hand, it doesn't support screen rotation and could only be played in portrait mode. In this version, last visited page as well as player stats are saved and will be loaded automatically. Game rules are described well and a short video helps you learn how to play in a few seconds. Though it is called beta version, there's no bug and perhaps the developer wants to add more features before releasing the final version.
BlackFlip requires 765KB of storage memory and runs smoothly from the storage card.
