If it does not belong anywhere else and has to do with Pocket PCs post it here.

Hi!!!!

Sir, i've got a problem at my hand. I use an O2 Xda IIi. I've a Kingston 2GB card as well. I've got no more than 3 softwares on it. Just the basic ones, TCPMP Media Player, TCPMP AC3 Plugin, Mobirate Billiard Master 3 & O2 connect which is pre-installed. Besides this I seldomly access internet over the phone. My handset has become extremely slow. There are not more than 8 today screens and may be 10 odd ringtones. I don't send any MMS at all and besides neither are there any known as such viruses that attack the piece.

I was wondering as to should I change from a Windows 2003SE edition to a WM5 or WM6? Is it really going to improve my speed? Also is it worth the change? Can you please suggest me. Need help desperately. Thanks.

If you're not using a task manager, the reason why everything is so slow is probably because you've used all those programs once or twice. You see, Microsoft made the close button the "smart minimize" button; its very annoying. Basically when you click close, it actually runs in the background, waiting for you to open the program again.
Since you said you only have those programs, that's probably the reason; have you tried a soft-reset? That clears all the ram; also you might want to get a taskbar program such as Wisbar advance, because those programs, along with modifying your taskbar to look nicer, also include a task manager (wisbar) to see what programs are running in the background, as well as changing the "X" button from smart minimize to actually closing.

If you're doing fine with 2003SE, stick with it. However WM5 does have the great feature of persistent storage; i.e. once it loses battery all your data doesn't go away as well.

Well thanks friend. My intentions are clear now. But do u think that its good to upgrade my PPC? I mean would it make it any faster at all? I want it to be fast & reliable. Currently my phone just hangs when I go to receive a call or see a msg. My problem is that I have to again go for a soft reset.

This is annoying. If at all I choose an upgrade, how do I go about it? Please give me pointers as to what ROM do I choose etc.

Thanks a lot for your previous reply, also please suggest if I should also change my phone, which do u think is a better buy, like HP iPAQ series, Dell Axim, i-Mate or any from O2 itself.

yes it is absolutely worth it, but you MUST read how to do it and follow all the steps exactly

your best option is to read the forum and try all the popluar roms and find out which works for you, eventually you can try making you own

depends what you want, dell don't (and won't) do ppc phones. the forum i linked above only features products by HTC which are generally rebranded, but i think it's worth staying with htc just for that forum

Hi again,

Well then it'll take me some time to go through all that, also I downloaded the latest ActiveSync v4.5 but seems that a .DLL is missing in my system. I downloaded that version from the parent website that's Microsoft itself. I really thought it'll work. Also my problem was that I can never resolve my inbox.

Just between you and me, how good is an O2 Xda IIi? Seriously tell me friend. I was planning on buying the new i-Mate Ultimate 7150 due to be launched in May 07.

Also can you send me a short list of the most popular roms?

Thanks again dear friend.

i don't know about the xda IIi, i have a mini s. just look in the forum and see what other people are using, read the 'stickies' to find out how to upgrade, i can tell you that by upgrading my device it is now twice as fast, so a similar improvement is possible if you take the time to research your device in that site.
