is there anyway to change the default extraction path for setup installers that use activesync?
suppose that you've downloaded a 50mb setup installer, now if you want to install it on your device with less than 50mb free storage memory the installation will fail.

if there is a way to change the extraction path to storage card instead of main memory, it will be installed perfectly.

thanx

no problem. i found the solution! it was an old trick but i've forgotten it because i'd not used it for a long time.

now for those who have the same problem i describe this easy trick:

execute the setup installer and while the CE App Manager asks you to confirm the installation, navigate to the ActiveSync folder and find the proper CAB file. now copy it somewhere else and cancel the setup installer.
send the CAB file to the storage card and install the program from there.

all PPC programs should be installed as cabinet (.cab) files, whether they have setup installer or not.

all executable setup installers (.exe) for PocketPC contain a cabinet file that should be transfered to PocketPC to complete the installation process. To do so, the setup file extracts the related cab file to a temporary folder and then trasfers it automatically to your device through a synchronized connection.

most setup installers extract these cab files into a subfolder of ActiveSync directory.
for example C:\Program Files\ActiveSync\something\.

When you execute the setup installer, the cabinet file will automatically extracted and CE Application Manager (that comes along with ActiveSync) will be called to transfer and install the cabinet file. here, you can navigate to the ActiveSync directory and search for the appropriate cabinet file.
then copy it anywhere and cancel CEAppMngr, now copy the extracted cab file to your memory card and execute it within your PPC file explorer.

there are some few old setup installers that may extract cab files to somewhere else such as windows temporary folder, so if you didn't find it inside ActiveSync folder just search your computer for that cabinet file.
for example, if you're installing MyTool just search for MyTool*.cab or something similar to it.

also most installers won't delete cab files after closing CEAppMngr, so you can always find it inside ActiveSync folder.

did you follow the instructions? you can easily get the cab file when CEAppMngr is still asking you to confirm the installation.
if you explain better, i may be able to help you.

Hi

I try ans seach for the file in the PDA but nothing because don´t have 22Mb internal store.

In Pepid.com i get a trial instalation file it´s 22MB, when i try to install i get the error not enought memory in the device. The only way i can install a so large file is in .cab form.

Is it possible to extract from the instalation file .exe the .cab file?

Thanks in advance

the cab file is not on your device but your desktop PC as i've described before.

on your desktop computer, navigate to ActiveSync folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\ActiveSync) and if there was no appropriate cab file, use search on your desktop pc as described above.
