I need some help here as I appear to be going around in circles with this problem.
As a complete newbie to PDAs, I have just bought my first one:
HP rx5935 (running Windows Mobile v5)
This is connected to my pc (running Windows XP Pro) via its supplied USB cable. And I am running the latest version of Active Sync v4.5 on the pc.
What I can't seem to get to work is that I want to be able to view files on the pc from the PDA via the USB connection.
I have setup a user (john), without any password, on the pc which is also the same name as on the PDA.
I have set my firewall (Sysgate) to 'Allow All' on the pc, so that the firewall is not blocking anything.
I have also disabled in the pc's 'Local Security Policy', 'Limit local account use of blank passwords to local console only'. This allows users to logon on remotely without having a password.
I have setup a share on a folder on the pc with perissions for user 'john'.
On the pda I run 'File Explorer', then I go to 'Menu' 'Open Path' and enter the name of my pc '\\q633'. A dialogue 'Connecting to server' appears then after a few moments the dialogue 'The network path was not found' appears, followed by another dialogue 'Network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network'.
The USB connection works fine for everything else I do with the pc and PDA including transferring files from pc to PDA, but for some reason I can't see files on the pc from the PDA.
Any help would be much appreciated.
