Ok, I know if my computer breaks, i can throw in my Windows CD and format my computer, install a fresh version of windows and be happy.

But im new to PPC, so is there any way we can do the same sort of thing ? I like to format regualy to ensure my computer is running smooth. Can I do the same with my PPC.

yes, there is friend.
You can soft reset, this is just like restarting your PC. It will set your ppc straight, make it function smoothly again.
Soft resets are common, so dont be surprised if you find yourself doing this often. Ofcourse, it all depends on how much you tinker with your ppc

Hard resets are for emergency situations only, or when you want to reset your ppc to factory settings. Which means that you will loose all of your mods and tweaks and apps and stuff like that. (Here is where you might want to look into backup apps and cloning apps).

So a soft reset would be me shutting the device down, which i do a lot anyway, But what if I got a virus. can i still do a hard reset ? Will that remove the virus?

How about if my device wont start anymore (Software error not hardware), will a hard reset fix this ?

yep soft is like a PC restart.

hard reset will only get rid of the virus if it has not got into the rom.

If the device wont start a hard reset will fix it again as long as the rom is fine, if you performed a ROM update that failed then a hard reset may not help.

just make sure you backup all data before you do a hardreset. (i have a weekly backup that runs)

so like i mentioned, you may now want to look at backup appz and cloning apps here on ppcw. The are very useful and very handy. they can save you lots of time and effort should you happen to need a hard reset.
It is very hard to get a virus on your ppc. You have to try hard, like open up suspicious emails and stuff. but if you stick with normal/safe internet use, and using appz from ppcw, you will not get a virus.
there are only like two viruses for ppc and they are very rare and hard to get. Most people do not even have an antivirus program on their ppc, as there is no need; at least not yet.

But being careful is best.

Of course..! Go to your vendor service center, spend sum greens, and (hopefully) its fixed..!
