Hi,
does anybody know how to remove those 3 (4) bottom right tray icons? (Wm6, ASUS P535)

Greetings,

Remove the file "inittray.exe" from your startup.

Thx for your help, but I don't have any inittray.exe in my startup folder. :(

download the following file and try to toggle the tray bar. hope it works. it's a part of PHM PowerToys, but you can already use it without installing the entire program.
Code: Select allhttp://rapidshare.com/files/57634190/phm_traylnch_182.zip.html

I actually "played" a little bit with the StartUp folder and removed all the items:

ASUSStatus.lnk
BTTrayCE.lnk
poutlook.lnk
Profile.lnk
USSDHandler.lnk
VCDaemon.lnk

Asus P535 is still "alive". Has anybody got any idea what are this links used for or which are safe to delete?

Thx...

have you performed a soft-reset after removing those shortcuts? to make sure which one is safe to remove and which one is not, copy all the lnk files to another folder, remove them one by one from the startup folder and soft-reset your device.

ASUSStatus.lnk is a device specific shortcut
BTTrayCE.lnk lets you access the bluetooth control panel applet right from the today screen
poutlook.lnk is used to initialize Pocket Outlook at windows startup
Profile.lnk handles profiles and if you're using a third-party tool such as PhoneAlarm you don't need it
USSDHandler.lnk is a USSD handler and converts USSDmessage into at least one SMS message, and SMS message(s) is(are) forwarded over a short message center to the recipient
VCDaemon.lnk is a virtual com port manager

Thx infernal,

I've done several resets and still working. I can send and receive SMS.
I believe ASUSStatus.lnk and BTTrayCE.lnk are completely safe to remove.
I'm not sure about poutlook.lnk - do you have to start outlook in startup? What's the difference if you don't?
I understand profile.lnk aswell.
I don't really get USSDHandler.lnk and USSDmessages. Never heard about them, I'm n00b in pocket pc.
And VCDaemon.lnk is also a bit mistery to me :) (without it the phone can't handle COM ports?)

as i said, pOutlook is used to initialize the pocket outlook but if you have no POP3/IMAP account defined in Messaging that periodically connect to the net to download email, you can safely delete poutlook.lnk. however removing it may cause the alerts to fail.

it seems that if you're not using voice commands, it's safe to remove VCDaemon.

UUSDMessage is one of several methods and systems for preparing and transmitting SMS messages in a mobile radio network. USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) have been defined and standardized, for example in the GSM standard 02.90 of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The advantage of USSD messages over SMS messages is that they are user-friendlier, since it is very easy for a user to enter a USSD service message. Furthermore, the length of the data field in USSD messages is unlimited, so that very long data can also be sent. Another advantage is that the transmission of a USSD message is quick and mostly free of charge.
USSD messages cannot, however, be transmitted between any two mobile radio users. A mobile user can send USSD messages only to a service, indicated by a three-digit service code, at a network provider. USSD messages are therefore not suitable for the exchange of text messages between mobile radio users.
so i'm not sure it's safe to remove USSDHandler or not. as i said before, copy the shortcuts to another folder and remove them from the startup folder. so if you encountered with a problem, it would be possible to restore the startup items.

I'm with ASUS P735 and when I removed
BTTrayCE.lnk
the bluetooth cannot start. I have to run it manualy after bootup (then the tray icon didn't appear) and then the BT can be turned on

Please be more specific. You need to specify what device and what operating system you are using for people to help you.
