I am trying to play some WMV files on my ppc using core player, but the performance is not so good. The video stops all the time...

How can I improve the performance? Are there any tricks? Or do I have to re-compress the video (if so, in what format and how?)

Choose the proper output method in CP's video settings. Load only videos to your device which really match to your device screen resolution. E.g. for a QVGA device re-render the video to a resolution of 320x240 pixel.
