I had installed VITO Sms chat posted on this forum recently...
After I finished my installation , there was a peculiar problem.. the notification which used to come on any incoming sms/mail on my HTC Home plugin stopped ...
Also since my ppc has a 200 Mhz processor , Sms Chat application was very slow..so I uninstalled it.
But even after that the notification problem isn't solved...

Moreover after uninstalling that app, 1 more problem has started, When my SD card is in the slot , I don't get any notifications and the messaging option itself doesn't open and as soon as I pull out my card , the problem is solved ..

Just do a hard reset and restore the latest working backup.

I did a Hard reset but the problem persists . One more thing when I delete the folder named Inbox MST 300********* (meant for storing mail attachments ) in the Memory Card ,there problem is solved , but after a soft reset the folder is created again .....

Recommended to try that. You can change the destination folder in PocketOutlook's settings.
